Hello from Dallas! Though it has been a while since we have written, we remember YOU and thank the LORD for blessing us with your friendship. Life has been full and busy for us and we’d like to share with you a few prayer requests.

First off, the children are doing really well. Laura (10) is finishing her 4th grade year. Academics are getting more difficult but she has worked so hard. She has wonderful friends and is a people person! Samuel (7) is finishing 1st grade. He has been blessed with a keen mind. He is a future engineer or computer guy! Ruthie (4) is at such a fun stage of life – full of love and silliness. Parenthood is not for the faint of heart, is it? I need to remind myself frequently that these are the Lord’s children and it’s not all up to me. Please pray that we would have a good summer full of special memories. We plan to stay put. We’ll enjoy the Wycliffe pool, participate in VBS, and hopefully read LOTS!
We continue to love our house. It’s big enough that we’ve been able to have guests stay with us and we love that! There have been a few challenges: the septic tank saga seems to have come to a close because we haven’t had any issues! But now we’re dealing with a major water leak under the slab foundation. The City of Duncanville water people came and alerted us that we were losing about 8 gallons per minute. Aparently they have a way to measure that! We immediately turned off the valve that leads to our house. That made the water meter stop. So, we knew the leak was in/under the house (not in the front yard). We do not see any water damage in the house, so we believe the leak is under the slab and a plumber confirmed it with special equipment to be able to hear where the bubbles are. Instead of digging or breaking through the slab, we’re going to re-route the water throughout the house with new tubing called Pex. Two plumber friends from church will help José do the work tomorrow, Saturday. Would you pray for this big job? Every day we turn on the valve for maybe 15 or 20 minutes just to shower quick, flush toilets, and fill up our buckets. It’s been kind of fun – reminding us of living overseas where it’s pretty normal to have the water shut off for certain hours of the day. And I’ve gotten to be friends with the ladies from Mexico who work at the laundromat! Anyway, pray we’ll have functional plumbing soon, and for God’s provision for this major expense. Thank you so much.
Our work is going well. José helps many, many people resolve all of their computer issues. We rely heavily on our technology to help advance the work of Bible translation. He does good work and everyone loves him. His current supervisor will be retiring from Wycliffe soon, sadly. He has been like a father to José. What a gift to work with like-minded, loving Believers.
I continue to love, love, love working at the the front desk at the Clinic on Wednesday mornings. Our patients serve all over the world and it’s wonderful that we’re able to help them with immunizations, and all sorts of other medical needs.
In April I was asked if I would take on another minor role. Except it hasn’t been too minor yet. Our Americas Area Director, Justin, asked me to be the coordinator for getting all kinds of communications into Spanish, for all of our Spanish-speaking colleagues and partners. The job sounded absolutely perfect because I love Spanish, love people, and love coordinating! So, I agreed to take it on! It’s been a bit of a learning curve and I’m doing more editing than I anticipated doing, but I’m very much enjoying helping in this way.
We were in Holland, Michigan for 10 days over the Christmas holiday and we had such a wonderful time reconnecting with family and friends. A big thank-you to Al & Mary TerHaar who let us stay with them!
What else is new? I don’t know! Please let us know how you are doing. Even though communication does not seem to be my forté, we really do think of you and pray for you. May we all keep our eyes on Jesus through hard times – and always.
Thank you, friends, for being part of God reaching the nations – the peoples of the earth – with His Life-giving Word. We couldn’t do our part without your prayers and your gifts. What a wonderful, rewarding work we are in!
