June 2019 •  Balsam Lake Public Library News
Welcome back to our friends who were away for the winter!
As we anticipate nicer weather, I wanted to remind you of what is available at the library to help when the weather isn't so great or you need a break from the outdoors.  We have games, puzzles, puppets, magazines, books, iPads, and a kindle, all available for check out. We also had a generous donation of STEAM kits, for use in the library.
Our summer is filled with many activities for adults and families. Our Friends of the Library have an author series this summer and the first author is Joe Niese, a local librarian who is also a member of the Society for American Baseball Research. Joe Neise will be at the library on June 11th at 6:30, to share his knowledge of baseball legends.
On July 9th we will have author and comedienne Lorna Landvik and on August 6th Door County author Patricia Skalka.
Keep updated on our Facebook page and Instagram.

Our Book Club read for Tuesday, June 11, is a psychological fiction book by a Minnesota author named Emily Fridlund.  The book, published in 2017, touches on the topics of teenage girls, belonging, choices, secrecy and teacher-student relationships and  is set in northern Minnesota.

The main character is a 14-year old girl named Linda, who confronts the life and death consequences of the things people do and fail to do for the people they love.

The Book Club meets at 2:00 in the library meeting room and all are welcome.

Hi, Families

Do you know the #1 way to stay smart?  READ!  STOP the summer reading slide by joining a Summer Library Program.  Set a daily reading goal and let us help you find books you'll enjoy!  Join a summer library program or enroll your preschooler in the "1,000 Books Before Kindergarten" program.

"A Universe of Stories" Summer Library Program 2019 begins with an early bird registration on June11th at Pine Park featuring a presentation on birds by Interstate State Park.  Our kick-off party will take place on June 12th at 4 pm.  This fun-filled event will also be at Pine Park.  Register your children plus receive snacks, a swag bag and delicious root beer floats donated by KJ's New North!  A high-energy, comedy packed concert with a message of kindness called, "Kidpower" with Rachael will follow at 5 pm.  Please bring lawn chairs, blankets and bug spray.

A BIG thank-you to all our sponsors from our local community!  Your continued support is very much appreciated.  We would also like to give a special thanks to "River's Rally" and the Wheeler family for purchasing literally hundreds of "Snap Circuits" for our youth to create and connect.  Ask a librarian to use any of our new STEAM-tastic activities -  Snap Circuits, Picasso Tiles, Legos or stamping kits.

Make library visits part of your weekly summer routine.  We have many events this summer and we welcome all families to join us!  Bring your friends! Full list of events can be found

See you this summer,
