Visions of Zealandia 2: the big idea - coming soon!

Hi <<First Name>>

I've been sitting on this news for quite some time but now I can finally announce that I will be exhibiting some of my most favourite pieces featuring Zealandia's birds in the Zealandia gallery in a new solo exhibition running 1 July to 31 August!
(More info...)

Birds featured include kākā (of course!), tūī (who else!), and a cheeky toutouwai (why not!). And of special note is "Imagine" - a commissioned work by Jim and Eve Lynch, created especially for Jim's upcoming book on the history of the Sanctuary. Each art work is being professionally framed including using special anti-glare glass for a more immersive effect. There will also be many new TinyArt pieces and limited edition archival prints in three sizes.

And on Thursday July 4 (from 5 to 6:30pm), we're holding a special viewing where you can come along and share some bubbles and a bite and catch up with me and many other bird-art-loving friends. I do hope you can come - if you can, please RSVP by 1 July.

  • 1 July - 31 August 2019 Visions of Zealandia 2: the big idea
Solo exhibition at Zealandia EcoSanctuary, Visitors Centre, End of Waiapu Rd, Karori, Wellington. Open every day from 9 to 5 - free entry.
Te Āwhiorangi, Zealandia's takahē chick, has now left the ecosanctuary and has gone to Burwood Takahē Centre to continue his education about how to grow up to be a wild takahē. Rumour has it that he's buddied up with an older bird who is keeping a close eye on him. We may have only had Te Āwhiorangi for a short time, but we all fell in love and will remember him fondly. Recently I made some fine-art photography prints of him available to Zealandia, both as unframed prints and some framed TinyArt pieces, including this photo "Baby Takahē". The TinyArt pieces are flying off the shelves so if you've missed out, let me know and I'll make you up something special.
Tūī photoart ("At what cost forever") featuring a tūī on a rātā vine
I've changed out my prints available at the Forest & Bird online store, with 4 different medium-sized tūī artworks. If you purchase prints through the site, you get to support the birds twice as not only do Forest & Bird receive a commission that goes towards their conservation efforts but I also donate 10% of my proceeds to Zealandia.
Creative Compass Discovery banner
Here's an interesting opportunity for emerging NZ artists - a photo-art-friendly exhibition run by Creative Compass. I'll be helping out with the judging on photography and digital art entries. Entries are due by 13 July, so still some time to come up with some wonderful works to submit.
Hannah sketching
I didn't get into the NZ Art Show this year (it is highly competitive) but I'm so delighted that the lovely and talented sketch artist Hannah Shand did - I've had a sneak preview of the new works she's exhibiting and you'll shortly see why I'm so excited for her! The show runs over Queen's Birthday weekend (that this one coming up) at the TSB Arena on Queens Wharf, Wellington. The show is well-worth attending, with hundreds of NZ artists exhibiting.
