We’ve already received some Expressions of Interest (EOI) for our major grant funding round! If you have an innovative project, event, programme or initiative that reflects our mission and strategic priorities, send us an EOI by 18 June. Dunedin Writers & Readers Festival sponsorship

We sponsored a panel discussion called ‘Te Reo Boom’ at the Dunedin Writers & Readers Festival this month – a discussion with four te reo Māori advocates, chaired by Guyon Espiner. UNESCO Aotearoa Youth Leaders Charlotte Steel and Māia Tapsell attended and reported back on the event.

Robyn in Paris

National Commission Chair Robyn Baker has been visiting UNESCO headquarters in Paris this month. The main purpose of her trip is to begin to prepare New Zealand’s approach to engagement at the General Conference in November and to talk with UNESCO leaders about current and emerging issues that are likely to be a focus at the conference.

Climate Challenge conference

Some of our UNESCO Aotearoa Youth Leaders attended the Climate Challenge Conferences, held in Auckland and Wellington this month. Liletina Vaka reported back on the Auckland event. Organised by rangatahi for rangatahi, the conferences were sponsored by the National Commission through the 2018/19 UNESCO Contestable Activity Fund.

This month we’ve run a series of short videos on Facebook, introducing our UNESCO Aotearoa Youth Leaders. Check them out, either on Facebook or on our YouTube channel – their passion is second to none and they’ll give you hope for the future of this country!

School Strike 4 Climate

It was wonderful to see young people across New Zealand expressing themselves about climate change this month. We’re immensely proud of the hard work of Raven Maeder, Chair of the UNESCO Aotearoa Youth Leaders and our Special Advisor Youth, who is one of the Student Strike 4 Climate NZ organisers. Capturing rangatahi voices for Youth Week

UNESCO Aotearoa Youth Leader Liletina Vaka took an active part in New Zealand's National Youth Week recently, working with rangatahi across West Auckland to capture their stories. The result was a beautiful art piece celebrating the different stories of more than 100 rangatahi!
