At our Monthly Meeting this Sunday at the South Florida AFL-CIO, we will elect four delegates to attend DSA's National Convention in Atlanta from August 2-4 . Delegate nominations close on Wednesday; if you're a member and still haven't declared your candidacy, please reach out to the Steering Committee ASAP. In the event of a contested election, we will be sending out electronic absentee ballots to our membership preceding the vote. Other items on the agenda include a bylaw amendment to alter the composition of the Steering Committee, a presentation by our comrades at South Florida BDS and establishing a nominations committee for our Steering Committee elections next month.
On Wednesday, May 30 at 7pm we will be holding a workshop about the Convention to discuss the internal politics of DSA at the national level, along with the various slates and big-ticket items that will be voted on. The Steering Committee has created this "cheat sheet" as a guide for members to work these important issues.
Lastly, we have started a GoFundMe to financially support our delegates' trip to Atlanta. Between registration fees, lodging and transportation, the Convention isn't shaping out to be cheap. As socialists we believe that this opportunity should be accessible to all our members, not just those with financial means. We strongly urge everyone to please consider supporting this mission.
