This webinar will explore how to ensure child-centred procedures are in place in criminal proceedings and how to avoid the risk of conflict with child protection proceedings. Join us to learn about the legal and practical issues involved in ensuring the right safeguards are in place.  We will consider what legal and social professionals need to think together about to ensure effective justice and to avoid re-traumatisation of the child. This seminar is aimed at practitioners, representatives of professional organisations as well as policymakers concerned with child victims of violence in criminal proceedings.

Speaker:

Ms Rebecca O’Donnell is an Irish lawyer with extensive experience in EU legal and public affairs. Her areas of expertise include fundamental rights, child friendly justice, child protection, asylum, migration and trafficking policies. Coming soon ...

There are just 6 months left in PROMISE 2. As we head into the summer months, partners are hard at work organizing the last of their national level dialogues and training, and preparing to keep the momentum going either independently or with follow-up projects. On the project level, the PROMISE management is finalising a methodology for consulting children and also launching the pilot of a case management tool for Barnahus and similar setups. And of course, we're working at light speed to get everything in order to apply for PROMISE 3 and to start establishing the PROMISE Network.

Stay tuned for news about the results and next steps, which will be presented here in the PROMISE newsletter, and also in the webinars that are planned in the fall:
  • 12th September: Technical and legal considerations for the interview recording system
  • Presenting the child consultation methodology
  • Presenting PROMISE 2 progress and next steps – presented by CBSS, Child Circle and PROMISE 2 partners

Please forward this newsletter to any and all stakeholders.

Until next time,

The PROMISE team
About PROMISE
PROMISE supports the establishment of Barnahus and child-friendly institutions, notably by sharing good practices and high-quality standards for a European approach. The Barnahus model refers to multi-disciplinary and interagency interventions organized in a child-friendly setting. This work aims at a Europe where the human rights of children to protection from violence, support and to be heard are fulfilled. To this end, child victims and witnesses of violence in Europe are protected by child-friendly interventions and rapid access to justice and care.

The European Barnahus Movement was launched in June 2017. The launch confirmed Barnahus as a good practice, validated the Barnahus model as a widely accepted concept and consolidated the European network of Barnahus staff and interested government officials and practitioners.

PROMISE 2 (2017-2019) is promoting progress at national level in several European countries, and builds on learning from the first PROMISE project (2015-2017), which supported government officials and practitioners from more than 11 countries to establish Barnahus or similar institutions. Find out more at www.childrenatrisk.eu/promise

PROMISE resources are available for officials and practitioners who have an interest in establishing and operating Barnahus. The Vision of the project promotes common principles, criteria, goals and challenges. The Barnahus Quality Standards offer ground-breaking guidance and constitute the first attempt to define the principles and good practice standards for services that want to operate according to the Barnahus model. The Standards are currently being translated into several European languages. All versions will be published on the Promise website. The Enabling Child-Sensitive Justice report gives an overview of how the Barnahus model has emerged and gradually expanded in Europe, while the Compendium of Law and  Guidance provides a comprehensive review of international and European law and authoritative guidance concerning the rights of child victims and witnesses. Promoting Progress on Barnahus in Europe guides the development of national and regional advocacy strategies.

The PROMISE Webinar Series is co-organised with Terre des Hommes, a partner of PROMISE 2, as part of the ChildHub's child protection webinar series.
