Tom Bergin's Hearing
Rescheduled for Tuesday,
June 11, 2019
Confusion ensued at last week’s Planning and Land Use Committee (PLUM) hearing when it was suddenly announced that consideration of Tom Bergin’s landmark designation would be postponed [see the news articles linked below].
Due to this delay the Bergin’s PLUM hearing has been rescheduled for Tuesday, June 11, 2019.
The dozens of Bergin’s supporters at the May 21, 2019 hearing were understandably frustrated by this bureaucratic snag. It took everyone – including Mr. Ryu’s staff – by surprise. Although those at the hearing were told that the matter would by postponed for one week until May 28th, Ryu's office has confirmed that it has been rescheduled for June 11, 2019.
It is a long and difficult task to create an Historic-Cultural Monument and curve balls abound when dealing with City Hall. We have incurred stiff resistance from Bergin’s owners, who are anxious to sell the iconic tavern and restaurant so that it can be demolished for a new apartment development. So, as before, it will be critical that Bergin’s fans turnout in force for the June 11th hearing. This is the last major hurdle in securing landmark status for Tom Bergin’s.
We will send out another special bulletin to remind you of this important hearing once the official agenda for the June 11th PLUM Committee hearing is released.
