Fuzhou Promotes Coastal and Port Cooperation

17-19 May 2019 | FUZHOU - To promote development and cooperation in cities along the Maritime Silk Road, UCLG ASPAC’s 21^st Century Maritime Cooperation Committee organised the Maritime Economy and Urban Development – Coastal and Port Cooperation Forum last 17-19 May 2019 at the Fuzhou Strait International Conference and Exhibition Center. Local Initiatives Inspire International Communities

ONE of the cores of UCLG ASPAC’s activities is stimulating city-to-city cooperation. It not only allows city to learn and evolve for multiple reasons, but also open ways to more opportunities that city can grab to develop. Protecting World Heritage Cities from Climate Change

28 April – 2 May 2019 | BALI – World heritage cities are drawing big number of tourists every year as they do not only offer picturesque sites, but also the long history of human civilisation. It is estimated that the direct global value of culture and heritage tourism can be well over $1 billion dollars, with a significant share of it generated in the Asia-Pacific region. However, cities are facing growing challenges in protecting their heritage sites particularly from the impacts of climate change. Demonstrating cities’ resolve to preserve their cultural and historical pride, the IX International Conference of Eurasia World Heritage Cities was held in Denpasar, Indonesia, from 28 April to 2 May 2019, under the theme “Resilient Heritage and Tourism”. Dottoratta: Local Challenge Transformed into Innovation in Makassar

MAYOR Ramdhan Pomanto of Makassar (Indonesia) has envisaged that one day the city of 175.77 square kilometres will be a world class city. This ambitious goal has, then, been translated into various innovative programmes funded by local budget. Included is Dottoratta, local language for ‘our doctor’, a programme in health sector developed based on challenges faced by local people in getting public health access. Health sector is one of the challenges faced by local government of the city. In fact, there are many health problems revealed only after published by media. The lack of access to public health services and the lack of people awareness to report their health condition made up the cause. Click

Strengthening Local Governments Network for Resilience at Global Platform 2019

13 – 17 May 2019 | GENEVA – Making city resilience as one of the regional focus, UCLG ASPAC, in collaboration with its global partner, introduced initiatives of Asia-Pacific cities in mitigating disaster risk to international community through The Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR) 2019, an event organised by United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) and hosted by Switzerland Government.
