Welcome

Welcome to this month's edition of Music Australia’s eNews, which provides the usual roundup including an election wrap up. In support of National Reconciliation Week (27 May - 3 June) we feature the late Gurrumul’s celebrated final album, the Ntaria Choir, and childhood educators integrating indigenous perspectives.

In other news, we are excited to be hosting our 2019 Contemporary Music Roundtable (CMR) in Sydney next week. Lord Mayor of Sydney Clover Moore will open the event, which is highly appropriate given her support of live music in Sydney. This year’s CMR program aims to build support for actionable outcomes on a few key issues. The program was developed in consultation with national music industry peak bodies and our Contemporary Music Advisory Group. Organisations represented at the Roundtable include: ARIA; APRA AMCOS; Australian Music Association; Association of Artist Managers; Australian Music Industry Network; Australian Festival Association; Create NSW; The Live Music Office; Live Performance Australia; Music ACT; Music NSW; Music SA; PPCA; PWC; QMusic; Sounds Australia; Support Act; The Push Inc; triple J; Victorian Music Development Office; WAM, the Women in Music Awards and more.

Our national education program Music Count Us In is also kicking into gear, with our Songwriting Competition winners working with program mentors John Foreman OAM and Jack River to create this year’s MCUI Program Song, which will be sung by over half a million students around the country on 7 November.

We would also like to flag that 21 June is Make Music Day, which is celebrated internationally, and further information can be found here.
