Record number of patients take part in clinical research
The number of people benefiting from clinical research in England reached record highs this year - with 870,250 participants involved in studies supported by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) over the last twelve months.

Public attitudes on use of animals in research 
Ipsos MORI has published a report presenting the findings of their 2018 survey into public acceptance, awareness and attitudes towards the use of animals in scientific research in the UK. The report showed that trust in medical research charities, which fell from 28% to 22% between 2014 and 2016, has stabilised rising slightly to 24%.
Prime Minister sets date for her departure
Following weeks of speculation, Theresa May has announced she will step down as leader of the Conservative party on 7 June and remain as Prime Minister until a successor is chosen. The success of Nigel Farage’s Brexit party at the European elections is adding pressure on Conservative leadership candidates.
