A New Day Dawns: From Fear to Peace

Disease, warfare, natural disaster, car accidents, kidnappings, and crime rates - there are many reasons to be afraid when we look around our city and country. But with Jesus in the picture, all those fears can move out of our minds and be replaced by peace. Why? Because Jesus rose from the dead and proved his victory over the forces of evil. Jesus tells us that our sins are forgiven, and no criminal force or natural disaster can take that away. Jesus tells us that we will live with him in heaven, and no disease, no war, no act of violence can change that. Jesus tells us that he is with us, even now, even in times of hardship, and no one and no thing is powerful enough to change his promise. Easter shows us that a new day dawns as Jesus moves our hearts from fear to peace. Worship at St. John's this weekend features a sermon based on 2 Kings 6:15-17 (First Lesson).

Readings to prepare for worship:
2 Kings 6:15-17 - Seeing the army of the LORD brought Elisha’s servant peace.
Revelation 3:14-22 - Jesus called upon the lukewarm Laodiceans to repent and experience true peace.
John 14:23-29 - Although Jesus would soon depart from them, he first bestowed his peace upon the disciples.

God's blessings on your weekend! See you at worship!

Ministry Plan Open Forum
Tuesday, May 28

St. John’s will hold an open forum at 6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall to discuss the proposed ministry plan (budget) for 2019-2020. The congregation will also have the opportunity to discuss staffing plans for the church, school, and childcare ministry moving forward. All members are encouraged to attend. A voters’ meeting to approve the ministry plan will be held on Tuesday, June 4 at 6:30 p.m.
Rooted & Mowing
Lawn Mowing Volunteers Needed

St. John’s urgently needs a large group of volunteers to mow the lawn at church and school. If we do not get enough volunteers, the church will need to pay a lawn service to do the work. With enough volunteers, each person would only have to mow once a month or 2-3 times for the season. All are welcome—from teens to retirees. We have all the needed equipment, and instructions will be given on how to use it if needed. If you are interested, please click here to e-mail Kurt and Kelly Kramer by May 31.
Summer Bible Study & Sunday School
Sundays Beginning June 2
Bible study continues through summer! After taking this weekend off for Memorial Day, our summer Bible study and Sunday school begin on June 2 (no class on July 7). A variety of Bible study topics will be offered throughout the summer. Please join us at 9:15 a.m. for adult Bible study in the Fellowship Hall and summer Sunday school for children ages 3-9 in the school commons. Older grade school students and teens are encouraged to attend adult Bible study or assist in the nursery or at Sunday school.
