Channel 9’s Postcards Travel show was in the Grampians for a whole week this month filming for a four-part Grampians Special that will go to air this Sunday 2nd June to increase front of mind awareness and visitation to our region. Checkout Postcards this Sunday!

Our brand-new 24-page DL Grampians Way Touring Guide is looking fantastic and will be distributed across the state next month.  Our new guide is designed to profile our industry partners and will encourage visitors to disperse with opportunities to hop off the circular routing route to visit towns and villages across the region.

It was fantastic to attend the 40th Australian Tourism Exchange in Perth last month promoting our region to over 650 key buyer delegates from over 30 countries. What a fantastic example of collaboration between Great Southern Touring Route (Grampians Tourism, Visit Ballarat, Great Ocean Road Tourism, Tourism Geelong & Bellarine), Parks Victoria, Visit Victoria and tourism partners to promote Victoria and our regions internationally!

National Visitor Survey data for the year ending December 2018 shows the Grampians received nearly 1.1 million domestic overnight visitors - up by 11.7% on YE Dec 17. Visitors spent over 2.9 million nights in the region - up by 17.9% on YE Dec 17. Continued solid visitation growth for the Grampians region.

Thousands of food and wine lovers flocked to the Grampians this month for Grampians Grape Escape, one of regional Australia’s longest running food and wine festivals. The festival attracted over 8,000 visitors and provided a significant economic boost to the region. Our two-day event brings together our industry partners from across the region and showcases our amazing wine and local produce.

Congratulations to Cathy Ormsby and partner John for the opening of Heath House which is a brand new deluxe three-bedroom accommodation property located in the heart of Halls Gap. A wonderful addition to their portfolio of high-end boutique accommodation including Hemley House!

Stay warm!

POSTCARDS FILMS IN THE GRAMPIANS!

We hosted Postcards Travel Show filming in the Grampians at the start of the month with presenters Brodie Harper, Bec Judd and Lauren Phillips - we were lucky that the autumn weather was spectacular!

This is a $25k tactical marketing initiative with our local government partners to profile the Grampians region to our key Melbourne market and the timing of this exposure will to help bolster the traditionally quieter winter shoulder period.

We filmed in all 4 patches of our region over the duration of the week - with features on Pomonal, Wartook & Laharum, Great Western & Mount Langi and Dunkeld - and can't wait for the full Grampians feature that will go to air on the 2nd June at 5.30pm.

Make sure to set your alarms and tune in!

APRIL/MAY 2019

Making the fourth and longest walk in the Walk Victoria’s Icons series, the Grampians Peaks Trail will provide a world-class walking experience of 160kms that can be experienced in sections, or as one 13-day journey.

Parks Victoria has released an updated map that shows the overall track plans. Once fully open in December 2020, the trail will start in Mount Zero and finish in Dunkeld - offering a world-class experience for domestic and international visitors alike.

Track clearing is progressing, and track construction has begun. Dirt Art, a world leader in trail design and construction has been appointed to complete the final 102km of track along the trail. Stage Two will include advanced stone mason work, including hiker steps, walling and paving, with the track designed to be ecologically sensitive to the landscape as part of our Native Vegetation Counterbalance Offset Strategy. The schedule of work will give priority in the north, from Roses Gap to Halls Gap and between Mount Abrupt and Dunkeld in the south. Dirt Art will continue to construct the other sections of the trail into next year.

Stage One is now open, with a three-day / two-night walk taking you through majestic landscapes such as the Pinnacle Lookout. You can book your first night campsite at Bugiga, then on day two, walk to Borough Huts campground which is set in a tranquil forest area next to Fyans Creek.

Check www.grampianspeakstrail.com.au for trail details and www.parks.vic.gov.au for Grampians National Park access updates.
