BUILDING THE SOUTHERN LINK, 25 JUNE, AUCKLAND
The Building the Southern Link Conference in now only five weeks away! Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with both international experts and key stakeholders to progress the Southern Link, building greater connectivity between China, New Zealand and countries in South America.

The Building the Southern Link Conference seeks to identify the value of trilateral co-operation, building on China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and Chile and Argentina’s interest in connecting to BRI. Identifying opportunities for New Zealand leverage that may arise out of the concept is also a key objective for the Conference. The Conference is designed to be the starting point of the work required to progress the Southern Link.

We are pleased to announce that Hon. Tim Groser will be joining us as a keynote speaker. Tim’s experience as a politician and New Zealand ambassador will bring invaluable and thought-provoking discussion.

We are also very pleased to have confirmed participation from Loreto Leyton, Executive Director of the Chile Pacific Foundation, and Eduardo A. Sadous, former Argentina Ambassador to Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam and Venezuela whose expertise from a South American viewpoint will be invaluable to the conference outcome.
Loreto Leyton is the Executive Director of the Chile Pacific Foundation and currently is serving as Executive Director of the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) during 2019. As a former diplomat of the Chilean Foreign Service, she served, among other postings, five years at the Embassy of Chile in Argentina, five years at the Mission of Chile to the United Nations and two years as senior adviser to the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS). She has a deep experience in international negotiations and affairs.
Eduardo A. Sadous served as Argentine Ambassador to Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam and Venezuela. He is a Director of the Committee on Asian Affairs at the Argentine Council for International Relations (since 2011) and was Undersecretary of International Economic Negotiations (1998-99). Ambassador Sadous is a Professor at several Universities and is the President of the International Law Association - Argentine Branch (since 2017).
We are delighted that the Latin America Centre of Asia-Pacific Excellence (LatAm CAPE) is partnering with the Conference to bring Loreto Leyton to New Zealand. We acknowledge also the support of Air New Zealand in enabling the participation of Ambassador Sadous and two colleagues from the Argentine Council for International Relations.

Join us at the Aotea Centre in Auckland on 25th June for your opportunity to hear from these international experts and participate in key conversations to progress the Southern Link, building greater connectivity between China, New Zealand and countries in South America.

More information, including a programme outline, is available to view on the Conference website. The early bird registration rate is only available for another two weeks, closing on 5 June. Places are limited so register now to secure your place.
