The Art of People Watching by Jill Fryer opened Sunday, 19 May at CASM. Eleven installations containing Jill's unique characters and built or painted environments tell stories of contemporary social plights, fantasy, fun and whimsy. Check out the highlights through the Facebook album. Bring the family to the gallery to get up close and personal with Sgrumpy the troll, Doug and his bikie gang and flying Ursula amongst others.

GIFT SHOP
Artist of the Month | Jade Dearle
Talented Peel artist Jade Dearle has always been an avid drawer. Through the mediums of pen, pencil and block print her work uses repetition to explore how infinite variations can be created from a few select building blocks.
Call for applications
Artists living in the Mandurah or wider Peel region are invited to apply to be a CASM Gift Shop artist. The Gift Shop showcases a wide range of work including original artwork and prints, textiles, woodwork, jewellery, ceramics and cards. Applications close 28 June. Art workshop with Annette Nykiel
Sun 9 June, 10am - 1pm | CASM
Join Annette Nykiel as she shares stories about her installations in the exhibition Talking Place: Unfolding Conversations currently showing at Mandurah Performing Arts Centre. Spend a couple of hours yarning and responding to the work by making small ephemeral objects from local plants found in the area. All materials supplied. Cost $25. Art History Seminar | Beauty
With Frances Sullivan-Rhodes - Mon 17 June, 6-8pm
Artists have explored and challenged the ideas of beauty and this has evolved over time. What is beautiful? And is there beauty in the grotesque? This presentation will look at the representation of the figure, the significance of light and the way that art has been used through history to extol certain societal values.

Cymatics Ephemeral Art Youth Workshop
Art workshop for young people 11-25 years
Explore cymatics, the visualisation of sound, with local artist Alana Grant. Participants will use sound to create geometric patterns that will become the basis of an ephemeral art mandala, incorporating natural materials and found objects. Afternoon tea provided. AUSLAN lessons

CASM’s volunteer program is now eight years old. Our volunteers are the backbone of the CASM gallery, supporting exhibition installations, catering, gallery guiding and administration along with assisting in the cultural garden, Koolbardi Bidi.

The artists will discuss how they have responded to the significance of the wetlands with a focus on Lake Walyungup. This ephemeral salt lake is know by the local Noongar people as 'the place where people talk'.
