Friends & Blessings

I feel like a tumbleweed of joy, stumbling from one beautiful day to the next.  First of all...THE SUN!  Oh my goodness what a difference it makes.

Last Wednesday we had a work party with Gaby Immerman's crew from Green Thumb for Hire, along with her hard-working family.  We had 11 talented, dedicated, and loving workers running from task to task, in great spirits despite the sporadic cold rain.  Our homestead took a leap from "Oh My Gosh...we're never going to make a dent in the TO-DO list" to "WOW, we can breathe again!".  Remarkable transformation.  We had 15 hungry and appreciative people for our lunch feast and we had two very happy, moved to tears homesteaders (Amy & I, of course!) overflowing with gratitude.

Sunday was Amy's opening day at Wing and A Prayer Nursery.  From 9:00 - 2:00 we had a non-stop flow of customers, and enough dogs to keep it interesting!  Amy waxed poetic about pollinators and plants for hours with a couple dozen people and we all had a great time.  People wandered looking at plants and beautiful, informative signs.  Dogs romped and rambled.  We even had a family meet here for a 3-generation birthday celebration, complete with pie at the picnic table!

And to top it all off, today was the icing on the cake.  We had 7 members of Heather Cupo's Plant Euphoria gardening crew spreading their magic all over our homestead.  They dug, weeded, and mulched their way into our hearts.  They hauled dozens of wheelbarrow loads of compost and mulch from here to there, up the hill, down the hill, across the field, and into countless garden beds.  Everywhere they went, beauty followed.  The crew made a stunning difference.  And the 4 dogs had the best day of their lives, complete with Wild Alaskan Salmon and endless games of chase.  Another fabulous lunch was shared and appreciated by another batch of hungry hard workers, and Amy and I again teared up with gratitude and relief.

What blessed lives we have.  There's plenty of struggle, challenge, and hardship...but sometimes it all seems like a grand fairy tale, with Amy and I stumbling down the story, wide-eyed and wondrous.  This week was like that.

The plants in Amy's Wing and A Prayer Nursery are looking healthy and ready to burst with growth when we have sun and warmth.  Her regular Sunday/Monday hours, 9:00-3:00, have begun!  After a long winter, her lovingly-tended plants are ready to fill our hilltowns landscapes with food and shelter for the butterflies and bees.  I'll work on getting an updated plant list for 2019 loaded onto my website soon.  But feel free to email or phone with inquiries and questions.  Or check out their facebook page, "Wing and A Prayer Nursery".  Stop by and browse; it's worth the trip!
