May B Learning Happy Hour: Networking

Thursday, May 23, 2019 from 6-8PM
Living Room Realty, 1401 NE Alberta St, Portland

Join us for May's B Learning Event brought to you by B Local PDX and hosted at Living Room Realty’s Northeast Alberta Street location.

You asked for more networking opportunities within our community, so here’s your chance to learn how to engage with others for long-lasting personal and professional connections – and we’ll give you some time to put those learnings in action!

Sara Spirko, Senior Executive Recruiter with Noto Group, will share her experiences with networking and provide some pointers on what to do and, maybe more importantly, what not to do. We'll then facilitate “speed networking” to practice what we’ve learned. We’ll wrap up with an opportunity for low-pressure networking. This is an opportunity for all levels of experience. Don’t know how? Or maybe you do! This event is a chance to meet and talk to individuals in the local B Corp community.

The Path to Zero Waste with Jeanne Roy

On April 25, Jeanne Roy gave an engaging talk to around 80 members of our B Local community at Ecotrust on the topic: "The Path to Zero Waste." Attendees learned more about the waste we produce (and how to avoid it in the first place), what can go into municipal recycling & compost streams, the four steps to zero waste, and actions everyone can take to reduce waste impact!

Last year, Jeanne Roy and her husband filled only one can of garbage. Yet, the state’s latest survey shows that the average Oregonian generates about 2,500 pounds of waste per year. At this B Learning Lunch, Jeanne provided practical steps to drastically reduce household and office waste. By recycling, composting, and precycling, we can save natural resources, save energy, and reduce our carbon emissions. All it takes is a more thoughtful approach and a change of habits.

Jeanne Roy is the co-founder of the Center for Earth Leadership, the Northwest Earth Institute, and the Oregon Natural Step Network. She also founded Recycling Advocates, Portland’s Master Recycler program, and the Home Eco-Party program; authored a weekly column on sustainable lifestyle in The Oregonian and This Week Magazine for five years; and serves as an advisor to public agencies on environmental policy matters.
