Consultation on proposed move of Moorfields Eye Hospital’s City Road services

A public consultation is starting on a proposal to move Moorfields Eye Hospital’s services to a new centre bringing together eye care, ground-breaking research and world-leading education in ophthalmology.

The consultation runs between Friday 24 May and Monday 16 September – and you can share your views.

Eye care services would move from the current hospital at City Road, London, along with Moorfields’ partner in research and education, the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology and Moorfields Eye Charity.

Moorfields and UCL would sell the current land at City Road and all proceeds of the sale would be reinvested in a multi-million pound development on land available at the site of St Pancras Hospital, just north of King’s Cross and St Pancras stations in central London.

Camden Clinical Commissioning Group is running the public consultation with NHS England (Specialised Commissioning) and on behalf of the CCGs across England that commission Moorfields’ services. The consultation responses will inform a decision in January 2020 on whether the proposed move is:

  • in the interests of the health of our populations, locally and nationally
  • in line with our long-term plans to improve health and care
  • an effective use of public money.

You can download a full consultation document, the feedback questionnaire, and find other information including many different ways you can participate in the consultation here:  http://oriel-london.org.uk/get-involved/

Park run Practice

A community initiative is one year old next week - and GPs are being encouraged to celebrate with a national Parkrun Pledge Day.

Parkrun and the Royal College of General Practitioners have teamed up to promote the parkrun practice initiative on 1 June, and will involve practices which are signed up to link with their local parkrun events to promote the health and wellbeing of patients and staff.

Every Saturday morning, around 150,000 people across the country take part in the free 5k events run and marshalled by volunteers. They are open to walkers, runners and volunteers of all ages and abilities.

In East and North Herts, park runs are held in many areas including Letchworth, Bishop's Stortford and Pangshanger and there are seven GP practices registered as park run practices.

The GP parkrun pledge day is the first event of its type, and builds on the success of last year’s celebration across hundreds of parkruns to mark the NHS’s 70th birthday.

All the information about the day, including the pledge form, can be found here.

What matters to you?

An awareness day on 6 June aims to help support more conversations between people who provide health and social care and the individuals, families and carers who receive that care.

This is the fourth year of this successful campaign, which began in Scotland and continues to gain momentum.

Look out for events being advertised near you, and if you're on Twitter follow the campaign and join in with the conversation using the hashtag #WMTY2019.

New appointments to STP leadership

Senior health and social care leaders Iain MacBeath and Beverley Flowers have been announced as joint STP lead officers, a fantastic opportunity of a job-share partnership.

The position became available when former STP lead chief officer, Deborah Fielding, retired in April. Iain is Hertfordshire County Council’s Director of Adult Care Services and Beverley is the Chief Executive Officer of East and North Hertfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).

They will work with the independent Chair, Paul Burstow, to navigate the next steps towards an integrated health and care system for the area’s 1.5 million residents.

Personalised Care
This subject was the focus on a training event for staff, where delegates discussed experiences of Personalised Care, what 'good' looks like, leadership and co-production. Personalised Care considers a whole population approach for people of all ages, with targeted and specialised approaches for those who need them.
