Workforce Scotland
What's on Summer 2019
Welcome to the June 2019 edition of the Workforce Scotland Newsletter. We hope it provides information which is of interest and is useful in highlighting development opportunities and ways to connect with a wider range of colleagues across public services.
In this issue:
                         Workforce Scotland Development Activity
Future Possibilities to Learn through Exchange
Future Role of Coaching and Mentoring Collaborative
Save the Date - Collective Leadership Conference
                         Collective Leadership Tasters Sessions
                         Facilitation Network
                         Mindfulness Network
                         Breakfast Clubs

Over the last few months, we have continued our development work on Workforce Scotland, to learn from all of the work we have undertaken to date and ensure that we are really clear about our future strategic direction and configured in a way that will best enable us to deliver this together.  This work has included a Business Models Session with CivTech, exploration of strategic partnerships and a Joint Strategy Session with our Steering Group and Collaboration and Transformation Partners, who are drawn from across public services.  Lots of exciting future possibilities are emerging.

The Collaboration and Transformation Partners have also been meeting regularly and are developing new areas of work around culture change and the National Performance Framework and Hosting and Facilitation, aligned with our work on Collective Leadership.

If you are interested in becoming more closely involved in this work, there is still an opportunity to apply to be a Collaboration and Transformation Partner.

You can find out more about this here

Many colleagues will be familiar with the Leadership Exchange model that is currently offered for Workforce Scotland through ACOSVO and there have been many participants in the scheme over the years.

Further information can be found here

Following from a conversation within the Collaboration and Transformation Partners, it is felt to be timely to consider more widely how the full range of possibilities around learning and development through exchanges could evolve as part of Workforce Scotland.  Colleagues are invited to be part of an exploratory conversation around this, seeking to connect up possible developments and consider new models and possibilities.  Please contact Janet.Whitley@gov.scot if you are interested in being part of this work.

The Scottish Coaching and Mentoring Collaborative has, likewise, been a long-standing area of work for Workforce Scotland, developing coaching skills and approaches and connecting coaches with colleagues looking for coaching support across public services. Reflecting on all that has been achieved to date, it is felt to be timely to host a wider conversation about the crucial role of coaching and mentoring to our work, seeking to draw together some of the other areas where this work is happening and explore future development possibilities.

Please contact Janet.Whitley@gov.scot if you are interested in being part of this work.
Plans are being developed for our next Collective Leadership Conference, due to take place in Edinburgh on 1 and 2 October 2019. This will be an opportunity to bring together our key partners and participants to share learning from our work on Collective Leadership for Scotland. Further information around this would be made available shortly.

Fire Starter Festival

We had a phenomenally successful Fire Starter Festival in January – over 90 events stretching from the borders to Orkney, and over the sea to Ireland. The launch at the V&A was a fantastic experience – so many amazing human exhibits! See our website for reflections on the 2019 festival.

Next year’s 2020 Fire Starter Festival will run from 27th January to 14th February.

We will be hosting a range of information sessions after the summer about how you can get involved in the 2020 festival. This includes some webinars on ‘how to’ run a Fire Starter event. You can now book onto some of the sessions below. Watch this space for more upcoming sessions!

June 26-27, 2019
Glasgow | Edinburgh

An invitation to take part in cross-sector, interdisciplinary conversations on participation, inspired by the International Design in Government Summer Conference, Edinburgh and run by some of the same organisers.

How and where are people bringing participation & service design together? What can we learn from each other? Where does our untapped potential lie? What’s possible when we work in the spaces between our professional boundaries, sectors, and communities?

Fringe by Design is an open invitation to explore these and other questions, share stories and meet with other people working in the intersection between design & participation. You can join in by:

·         participating in a Fringe by Design event. More info on their website
here.
·         Hosting your own conversation, no matter how big or small.
·         sharing your stories & discoveries
