Candy Sweet Onions are this week’s Fresh Pick of the Week at the Palm Springs Certified Farmers’ Market. Although not as sweet as their name might imply, Candy Sweet Onions are definitely milder and less likely to induce tears than other onion varieties. They are a relatively new hybrid onion, developed to resemble other well-known sweet onions (like Walla Walla, Maui, or Vidalia) in flavor, but able to thrive in a variety of different climates. The Candy Sweet Onions that are available at the market are early season onions, and have been picked while the tops are still bright green. They are crisp and slightly sweet when raw, and mild and tender when cooked.

Did you know:  Candy Sweet Onions are a day-neutral onion variety, meaning they can be grown in almost any region or climate, regardless of daylight hours.

Price: $ 1.50 each.

May 25th will be the last outdoor market for the season.
The Summer Palm Springs Certified Farmers’ Market will reopen inside
the Palm Springs Pavillion on June 15th!
