Many Hands Make Light Work

Thank you so much to the helpful hands of Called to Renew!
We appreciate for all of those who have assisted with the Campaign -- pastors, priests, business managers, ambassadors, secretaries, ushers, and more -- your work does not go unnoticed!

We want to take this time to acknowledge some of our very own superstars:

Elvia Hernandez of Our Lady of Guadalupe Santa Paula: At the start of the Campaign, Our Lady of Guadalupe in Santa Paula saw recruiting a Campaign Executive Committee (CEC) as a challenge because they have few registered parishioners. Elvia was instrumental in choosing dedicated, motivated, and reliable CEC members. Elvia trained CEC members that were unable to attend meetings and encouraged the CEC to embrace this opportunity to build community and contribute to their parish.

Rosa Mendoza of Mary Star of the Sea: Rosa is the Parish Office Manager, and her organizational skills have been instrumental to the success of Called to Renew at Mary Star of the Sea. Rosa has made herself readily available to the needs of the Campaign, staying well after the office’s closing time to record pledges, plan receptions, and make phone calls. Her knowledge of the parish and its various ministry groups, events, and families was invaluable to the Campaign.

Sonia Alvarenga of San Antonio de Padua: Sonia raised $31,200, 35% of the $90,000 goal, on her own! In addition to fundraising, she also was present at every single Campaign Executive Committee meeting and set up tables, prepared coffee, and provided pan dulce. She has also done a wonderful job making announcements at Mass and speaking with catechist parents about the Campaign.

DaleAnn Torbey of St. Stephen Martyr: Everyone at St. Stephen Martyr is grateful for the tireless efforts of DaleAnn Torbey. DaleAnn is not only known as the parish Business Manager, but she also serves as the Campaign Secretary and a Campaign Executive Committee member. Her dedication to the parish and the Campaign is unmatched - we cannot thank you enough for your commitment!

Mary Dausner of Our Lady of Lourdes, Tujunga: When Fr. Rolly Astudillo began forming his parish’s Campaign Executive Committee at our Lady of Lourdes in Tujunga, Mary Dausner was the first person he wanted to invite. Mary volunteers at the parish in the counting room on Monday mornings and has been an active parishioner for years. She served as campaign co-chair and did more personal visits with parishioners than any other Ambassador, bringing in $121,000 on her own!

Thank you to all of those that have contributed their time to the Campaign!

Our Lady of Guadalupe in Rose Hill closes their Campaign at 110% of goal!
Congratulations for Our Lady of Guadalupe in Rose Hill for raising a total of $290,140 or 110% of their goal! Fr. Nelson Trinidad is thankful to everyone who participated in the campaign and helped Our Lady of Guadalupe reach its goal. The Campaign Executive Committee’s (CEC) dedication was integral to the Campaign’s success. The CEC visited parishioners in their homes to spread the message of Called to Renew, even traveling as far as three cities away. Dcn. Tom Brandlin, a member of the CEC, shared the Campaign to every parishioner he encountered - even securing commitments from people roaming the hallways of the parish! We are so grateful for this team effort and are eager to celebrate this great accomplishment at Our Lady of Guadalupe!

Roman will be going into his second Commitment Weekend with the help of his Campaign Executive Committee on June 2nd. We are looking forward to their continued success!

Holy Family hosts successful reception!
Fr. John Cordero at Holy Family in Artesia hosted a Campaign reception Tuesday night to share Called to Renew with his larger parish community. More than 40 parishioners attended to learn about not only the Campaign goals of the Archdiocese, but also the parish’s goals to expand its parking lot, add new air conditioning units to the school, and improve the church interior. Fr. John was excited about the opportunity to share these plans with his parishioners and collected $33,000 in new pledges that night! Holy Family has now raised $1,357,735 in pledged gifts, or 90% of its enhanced goal - amazing!

St. Mary raises over $85,000 from Our Lady of the Desert Mission!
Fr. Vaughn Winters at St. Mary in Palmdale made an appeal this past weekend to his parishioners at Our Lady of the Desert Mission in Littlerock (10 miles south of Palmdale). St. Mary’s parish oversees three missions, including Our Lady of the Desert. As a part of its case for support, St. Mary plans to provide each mission with $100,000 if they achieve their campaign goal. Parishioners were eager to help out their community and responded by pledging $85,000 this weekend, bringing St. Mary to 62% of goal. Congratulations to Fr. Vaughn!

Thomas is looking forward to another successful Commitment Weekend. We know you’ll do great!

Our Lady of the Valley in Canoga Park doubles participation!
Congratulations to Fr. Arturo (Art) Velasco at Our Lady of the Valley for a successful Commitment Weekend! The parish raised over $380,000 from 228 gifts, doubling the amount of gifts already pledged in just one weekend. The Campaign Ambassadors were hard at work during each Mass, passing out pledge cards, helping their fellow parishioners fill out their information, and showing their support for Called to Renew. Fr. Art and the Campaign team are excited to close the fundraising chapter of the Campaign and begin working on their parish projects!
