Getting our region’s kids out of the house and active in the community is our number one goal, and taking the bus helps kids achieve just that. Using transit involves walking or biking to transit and engaging with others in the community. With this promotion, we hope that students will use their summer to explore the rich variety of opportunities our county has to offer, like the beach, wildlife, bike and recreational areas, historical sites, special events, museums, parks, and libraries.
Parents will also benefit from Youth Ride Free by saving money on gas and creating less wear and tear on their cars. The program increases awareness of other public transit benefits, too, like reducing traffic congestion and contributing to a more sustainable planet and lifestyle. Youth Ride Free is a joint effort of the San Luis Obispo Council of Governments’ Regional Rideshare Division and participating transit operators.
