SEASON 7 / EPISODE 261 / May 24

Happy Friday!

Simi has done my podcast a bunch of times and if I’m lucky she’ll do it a bunch more. She’s talked about transitioning careers from attorney to intuitive eating coach, her pregnancy experience, and her advice on relationships. In this episode we’re talking about friendship

She’s articulate, smart, and has the best laugh. She also happens to be my best friend. Simi is such a wonderful friend and person and knows everything about 90s pop culture. You’ll get a taste of how wonderful she is in this week’s episode.

-Simi’s Well & Being

I’ve shared a lot about the places I love in NYC but I haven’t shared much about other places around the country I like. I was just in Columbus, Ohio. I go at least a couple times a year and wanted to share some of my favorite places that Simi has taken me to. If you live in Columbus - you should go check these places out. If not - definitely go visit! It’s a beautiful place with lovely people.

Alchemy Juice Cafe (pictured above) makes the best açaí bowls, toast, gluten free donuts, so good.

Native Cold Press Juices - so good and in a cute glass bottle.

- I loved Fox in the Snow coffee shop.

Commune - a lovely light filled vegetarian restaurant. kinda reminds me of ABCV in New York. We had this amazing broccoli with cashew lemon situation that was my favorite.

I’ll be back in Columbus for the podcasting festival Empowered Voices later this fall. Come see us! Tickets available here. I'd love to do a meet up then 😇

I have a journaling prompt for you this week. This is something that I made up and did the other day on a plane on my way to Columbus. I was feeling really down, honestly. I was just really depressed and I did this exercise for myself because I felt like I had so much against me. I felt like just really low. I wrote down all the things that are against me and I really let it out onto the page and I felt a little lighter. On the other side of the paper I wrote out what's FOR me. All my privilege, what I do have going for me. By the time I got done with this list I felt like the first list was a lot less important. It put me into this place of awareness and power and I wanted to share it with you guys. So give it a try. Write it out - What’s against me? and What’s for me?

I absolutely loved my conversation with author Kayleen Schaefer. Rarely have I rationed a book—savoring every last chapter and not wanting it end. The hybrid memoir explores female friendship through the lens of Kayleen’s personal experience with everything from mean girls in middle school to going from a ‘boy’s girl’ to meeting her best friend Ruthie and discovering the importance of female friendship in her life.

While I started this conversation by gushing over the book and flushing out many of my favorite concepts with the author, we eventually cover her robust career working in magazines, her move to NYC from Texas, her thoughts on creativity, her process of writing the book, her thoughts on friendship, and where she sees the future of female friendship evolving. Kayleen was as delightful to speak with, as she was to read.

While we're talking female friendships, I think you'll love revisiting this episode with one of my best friends - Katy Wright. While I love meeting new people though the podcast and recording our first conversation, what I might love even more is leading deep conversations with my real life friends. Having the microphone between us allows the conversation to go into directions it likely wouldn’t if we were just hanging out in real life.

Since we’re recording I can ask the deep life questions I might be too embarrassed to ask out of the blue or during brunch. This conversation covers navigating female friendships in our twenties from us talking about our experience of sticking with each other through moves, careers, and  lifestyle changes. I hope you like this episode as much as I did.

This week’s episode is sponsored by Ned. Ned offers wonderful hemp products made from organic materials in small batches to help with anxiety and insomnia relief, natural pain relief, as an anti-inflammatory, and so much more. I have tried so many CBD products but Ned is one of the best!

They extract their oils from hemp flowers using a slow and mindful process, and infuse each batch with binaural beats and happy loving energy. I love that on their dosage instructions on the bottle it reminds me to take 3 deep breaths before using. It’s such a grounding process and I’m so excited to share their wonderful products with Let It Out Listeners.
