Still waiting...

Twenty-six retail stores are now approved in BC — but none in the Okanagan.

The latest five approvals are three more stores for Vancouver, one more for Victoria and one more for Salmon Arm.

In the Okanagan, cannabis retail franchise Indigenous Bloom has dug a foothold — particularly for those who don’t want to buy cannabis online with their credit card information. The Indigenous-run stores have locations on Okanagan Indian Band property just outside the communities Lake Country and Vernon.

There is another retail brand open on OKIB land, called Wakenbake.

As for BC-government approved stores in the region, there are applications in the Okanagan waiting on the province.

Around the Okanagan

The City of Penticton is moving to a capped system for its cannabis retail stores, meaning only 10 more businesses will be permitted to set up shop in the city. Council has approved four cannabis stores – Green Gaia, Cannabis Cottage, Spiritleaf and BC Cannabis Stores.

A cannabis store proposed for Big White has passed a major hurdle. The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary recently gave its approval to Monashee Mountain Cannabis to open a retail store in the ski resort’s village centre.

An expert panel will talk about some of the issues affecting legal cannabis in the Okanagan during a Kelowna Chamber of Commerce lunch on June 25. The panel includes HEXO VP Terry Lake and Starbuds marketing director Daniel Winer.

FLWR on the Nasdaq

Okanagan cannabis producer, The Flowr Corporation, is has been approved to be listed on the Nasdaq stock exchange.

It will be under the “FLWR” ticker, which it already uses on the TSX Venture Exchange.

A trading date will be announced once the Nasdaq approval is formalized through the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

Flowr is headquartered in Toronto, with its production facility just outside of Kelowna.

“We have made tremendous progress against our strategic priorities in 2019, and the approval of our listing on the Nasdaq further enhances our capital markets objectives. This listing provides us with broader access to investors around the world and is a natural progression for Flowr,” says Vinay Tolia, Chief Executive Officer of Flowr.

“Later this year we expect to complete construction of our purpose-built indoor cannabis facility, Kelowna 1, which will position us to pursue further expansion at our Kelowna Campus, while at the same time advancing our global plans through our announced partnership with Holigen Holdings Limited.”

Pink Kush by San Rafael ’71

By David Fernades
cannabissommeliers.ca

San Rafael's Pink Kush has a sweet pine and citrus mix scent coupled with its intense visual hues of deep purples and neon greens that seem to glow like some organic alien planet from under the microscope.

On your first toke, be it rolled or vaped, you'll notice a classic lemon flavour with a mild taste of pine that's light enough to enjoy. After a few tokes and you'll need a drink nearby to tame the burning that has begun to inflame your throat. However scalding the smoke can be, Pink Kush somehow remains quite enjoyable while not causing much coughing at all.

Pink Kush's effects will begin to take its hold nearing the end of your session with a mellow head heaviness that runs down the back of your neck and legs. Roughly ten minutes later and peak will encapsulate your mind and body pinning you into your seat for the next twenty minutes, a comfortable 20 minutes that'll have you scrolling through Netflix watching nothing, looking for nothing in particular, and all with a smile on your face and a haze in your eyes that'll let anyone around you know that the movie is happening only in your head. This disconnect to the other dimension lasts a for the next 10 or so minutes and after that Pink Kush will leave you in a worry-free, careless, blissful zen-like feel that'll take you into the next hour and maybe even into a great afternoon nap or sleep.

Dad jokes

My son told me he didn't understand cloning.
I told him, “that makes two of us.”

I just saw my wife walk by with her sexiest underwear on, which can only mean one thing…
It’s laundry day.

When I was younger, I felt like a man trapped in a woman's body.
Then I was born.
