Churchill Calling!
There are now just under three weeks to go until the start of our 2019 telephone campaign when 13 current Churchill students will be working hard to raise money for this year’s ‘Opening Doors’ Annual Fund Campaign.
As always, the telephone campaign provides our alumni and callers with an enjoyable opportunity to share experiences of Churchill, and enables us to hear what our alumni have gone on to do after leaving College. Every gift, of whatever size, makes a huge difference – especially as we focus on student bursaries to open doors to talented students, whatever their background.

Xiaotian Fu garden opening
On 10 May the skies cleared just in time for our opening of the Xiaotian Fu Garden, at 72 Storey’s Way, by the Master and alumna Xiaotian Fu (G06). The garden is named in recognition of a generous donation to the College by Xiaotian, who noted in her speech: 'we can always enjoy a garden, a space of peace and tranquility, which could help people to connect, or reconnect, to nature, to your innate energy, and to your gifted imagination'.

US Ambassador visit
The College was delighted to welcome Ambassador Woody Johnson, the US Ambassador to the UK, to the Archives Centre at the end of May, during a visit to Cambridge. Mr Johnson had the opportunity to look at material relating to US–UK relations from Churchill and Thatcher's tenures as Prime Minster, and take a behind-the-scenes tour of the Centre. He later tweeted that the highlight for him was viewing the map Churchill used for planning D-Day.

Apologies to our former rugby players!
In last month's E-bulletin we announced that the Rugby Club had made the first division for the first time, and received lots of emails from alumni telling us of their forays into the first division as student players. We have alerted the current rugby captain, who, like the Alumni Office, was delighted to hear of our earlier successes, and thanks to those who took the time to correct us.
Anyone interested in rugby is invited to join us in a box at the Varsity match at Twickenham on 12 December, so do keep an eye out in future E-bulletins for the announcement when tickets are on sale. It's a really great day out with the opportunity to watch both the women's and men's games.
