Communities Marketplace

On Friday 31 May we held our Communities Marketplace event at Trinity Walk, Wakefield. We would like to say a big thank you to our members who had stalls and performed at the event! We believe that the marketplace promoted the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector in Wakefield District, and this was all thanks to the stall holders and performers who put their time and effort into the stalls and the event. We are undertaking a survey with our members who participated in the event to gain thoughts and feedback, but we can see that initial feedback is positive. The feedback will be used to help us better the planning and logistics for next year's event.

Quality For Health

Quality For Health is a quality assurance system for organisations delivering health and wellbeing services, enabling them to evidence the delivery of high quality outcomes for local people.
In Calderdale and Kirklees, Quality for Health has worked with commissioners and third sector organisations to enable a number of Quality For Health ‘Approved Providers’. This not only gives organisations a quality assurance standard, but also signifies their readiness to support local priorities around social prescribing for example. The programme is now gaining traction as a nationally recognised standard and it is hoped this will be taken up further across the West Yorkshire and Harrogate ICS area with the support of local infrastructure organisations and their partners. If you would like to find out more about Quality For Health, please contact via email info@qualityforhealth.org.uk  or call 01422 348777 (Sarah or Tamsin).

Quit16

Quit16 is a stop smoking campaign which is currently running. The campaign raises awareness of the links between smoking and the 16 types of cancer. Quitting smoking is the one clear way to reduce your risk. More than 1 in 4 cancer deaths in the UK are caused by smoking. You might know smoking causes lung cancer, but it also causes cancers of the mouth, nasal cavities, pharynx and larynx, stomach, kidney, bowel, liver, pancreas, ureter, oesophagus, cervix, bladder and ovaries as well as myeloid leukemia. For quitting advice, please visit the Yorkshire Smokefree website.

Supporting carers at work

Carers Week (10-16 June) is a helpful reminder that around 1 in 9 of your workforce may be caring for a family member who is elderly, disabled or seriously ill. Employers for Carers (EfC) is a network of forward thinking employers who recognise the benefits of supporting employees with caring responsibilities. As part of the West Yorkshire and Harrogate Health and Care Partnership – Programme for Unpaid Carers, SME’s in Wakefield can now gain free access to valuable resources including training for managers, information on the law, example policies and much more to support carers within your workforce. Other areas across West Yorkshire & Harrogate will be benefiting from being able to access EfC too. To become a member and access a range of dedicated resources and practical information and advice employers can visit www.fcdigital.org and create an account using the access code: #EFC2344. If you are a working carer, you could encourage your organisation to sign up to EfC’s!

Wakefield Early Help Website

Wakefield Council is in the process of producing an Early Help website and would like organisations involved in early help to add details of what they offer, in order for the people of Wakefield to gain an awareness of the wide range of services available to them. If you would like your organisation/group to be included on the Early Help website, please use the attached template to provide your information. Please add any additional lines as necessary. Please return the completed template via email teadie@wakefield.gov.uk by week commencing 17 June, which will ensure inclusion by the planned launch date of 15 July 2019.
