Message from the President Both the State and Federal elections are now done and dusted and we are settling back into our regular routines. The Trust’s constitution places me as President in a very enviable position, whereby I am not allowed to comment! However, jokes aside, I sincerely wish to congratulate both Dominic Perrottet and Julian Leeser, and also John Alexander in the Seat of Bennelong, for their election as our State and Federal representatives respectively. I look forward to working collaboratively with all three over their terms in office. As a matter of interest I have already contacted Dominic’s office, seeking a meeting to discuss a number of local issues that require urgent attention.
While I’m on congratulations, Dorothy Doolan received the 2019 Sustainability Award from Parramatta City Council last week for her contribution to Ray Park bushland and its heritage. Dorothy, together with her team of volunteers, has achieved environmental miracles in returning the native bushland to Ray Park with its surrounding network of creeks. Dorothy is an amazing organiser and, as anyone who has come into contact with her knows, we are extremely fortunate to have such a tireless volunteer. A well deserved award for Dorothy.
Beecroft Cheltenham Civic Trust Annual Autumn Walk –
Sunday 23rd June 2019 The Trust will be holding its annual ‘autumn’ walk slightly later this year, on Sunday 23rd June 2019. The walk will commence at the new grandstand facility at Cheltenham Oval at 2pm. The walk will briefly explain how and why the facilities have been built where they are before moving onto the discontinued haulage road that comes in from Kirkham Street. The walk will continue into Chilworth Reserve before returning to Cheltenham Oval where our traditional afternoon tea will be provided. The walk will include points of interest that are both historical as well as recent. There is always so much to learn about our local bushland, so come along and be surprised.
All welcome. A hat, stout walking shoes and water are recommended. The walk will proceed regardless of the weather.
The Beecroft Cheltenham History Group Book Launch –
Saturday 29th June 2019. WW1 Letter of James Blackwood: A Beecroft Son at war and at peace.
The launch will occur on Saturday 29 June at 11.00am in Beecroft Presbyterian Church, where James Blackwood appears on the Honour Roll.
Julian Leeser, the Federal Member for Berowra and Phillip Ruddock, the Mayor of Hornsby Council, will both be present. Morning tea will be served afterwards. For catering purposes an RSVP to enquiry@bchg.org.au would be appreciated.
Julian Leeser assisted the Beecroft Cheltenham History Group in obtaining a financial grant for this history project.
Cheltenham Oval Sporting Facilities Official Opening –
Sunday afternoon 30th June 2019 The various sporting clubs of Beecroft with the support of Hornsby Shire Council will hold a special ‘Back to Beecroft’ afternoon carnival to officially open the new recreational facilities at Cheltenham Oval. Everyone is invited. Further details of events will be promoted through the various sporting websites including Beecroft Soccer, Beecroft Netball and Beecroft Cricket. The Trust will publicise further details as they come available.
Scam Watch Many of us are continually receiving unwanted phone calls from scammers telling us our computers or our internet is about to fail because errors have been detected etc. etc.
