Funding secured for new covers!
The cover tops have been showing their age in the last couple of years and are far less effective than they should be. However, thanks to the hard work of Alexis Fuller and the generosity of the ECB, we have successfully applied to the Small Grants Fund to replace these cover tops.
Given the rain this week, the cover tops will inevitably arrive soon before a heatwave which will undoubtedly follow now we’ve secured them...
Women’s 1s, Hawks and Men’s 4s lead the way
The women’s section led the way this week with the Hawks narrowly beating the Sutton Scorchers in midweek before the women’s 1s comfortably beat Dulwich on Sunday. The Hawks were indebted to the Mother / Daughter team of Marin-Curtoud’s who helped build a competitive total of 116-5 off 16. The younger Marin-Curtoud also starred in the field with a wicket and a run out but two Sutton stalwarts kept the chase on course and it came down to two runs required off the last. Well, Sutton are not the only ones equipped with a club stalwart. Our very own Selwyn-Kuczera held her nerve to beat the bat and secure the victory!
The Women’s 1s produced a professional performance to beat Dulwich by 8 wickets. Kent starred, ripping out the top order with 3 key wickets and then anchoring the chase with 45 not out. She was well supported bu Hariharan, who took 3 for 6 and scored 25 not out in just her second appearance for the club. Joining the Hawks and the Women’s 1s at the top of their respective leagues are the Men’s 4s who had a comfortable win against Wallington. Chasing 167 after some tight bowling, runs were shared amongst the top order (with Stuart scoring a jug-avoiding 48) to win with 9 overs to spare.
Strong weekend for Juniors
The juniors won five of seven games over the weekend with two victories over local behemoth, Spencer. Fantastic to see some positive results coming after a winter of hard work with our excellent coaching team and well supported by hard working volunteers and parents.
