Hello from everyone at Birmingham Community Matters
Happy Volunteers' Week. We are so grateful to the experienced helpers who attend our surgeries and give face-to-face support to people with questions about their own small community groups and projects. If you are among them: thank you.
Our trustees are working tirelessly behind the scenes to develop BCM. As you may know, we have secured funding to continue for at least the next three years, so we are busy drawing up plans and refining our systems.
We're planning to have new surgery dates and events for you from the autumn onwards - and there will be news and updates before then.
In the meantime we'll continue sharing useful community info through this newsletter, our Facebook and Twitter channels, and face-to-face whenever we bump into you!
B30 Get Together: tonight
Just a little reminder that our B30 Get Together is taking place this evening (Thursday 6 June from 7.30-9pm) at Bournville Parish Church, St Francis of Assisi.
It says B30, but everyone is welcome!
If you are:
* Volunteering for a community group
* Coordinating work in the area for a charity
* Working with a small social enterprise
* Part of a public institution
* Just interested in getting more involved with community life
. . . we'd love you to join us. We've planned this event alongside Councillor Fred Grindrod with hopes for building an even more connected community in B30 and beyond.
You can sign up here. It is very helpful if you book so we know how much tea and coffee to make. There is no need to print your ticket, though - save the paper and just come along. We look forward to seeing you.
Dance to Health conference
Our chair Emma Woolf was honoured to attend Dance to Health's annual conference at Birmingham Hippodrome on Monday (4 June). Emma led an afternoon session on running a community group, which was very well received.
Dance to Health is a nationwide pioneering dance programme for older people, which combines falls-prevention principles with the creativity, expression and energy of dance. We will be keeping in touch with the charity as it expands, perhaps offering further support to emerging Dance to Health groups.
In Birmingham, Dance to Health is managed by Aesop and runs in partnership with Birmingham Royal Ballet and Connected Care Partnerships. You can find out about local dance sessions here.
