Process Translated

Our first location is a greenhouse and it's dark, cold and pouring outside on this typical New England March day. Our portrait subject is the first of four subjects on this day. With the dark skies, the greenhouse has more fluorescent light than natural light and seems dark and scientific. I want more light. I crave the sun. It's been a long winter. I miss California.

I've played a lot with a pile of small hand held strobes all winter. For this shoot we placed them around the greenhouse sometimes in the actual plants. We moved around the green house as inspiration struck and moved the lights accordingly.

The project we're working on is Brown Alumni Magazine's annual feature on seven remarkable graduating students. We asked each student to suggest a favorite place on campus they'll want to remember.  See the entire feature here.

We just updated our "Portraits" page at www.leahfasten.com. There's tons of new work. Have a look.
