A Quote I'm Enjoying

"Believe you can and you're halfway there."

- Theodore Roosevelt

A Thought About That Quote

Believe you can't and you won't —  Unfortunately, the opposite of that quote is not true. I'd argue that believing we can't do something gets us 85% of the way towards not getting it done. In many instances that "can't" has us stop trying, whether or not it'd have taken much effort to succeed at what we wanted to do.

Two Ways to Approach an ADHD Trait

Correct It or Respect It — Most of the time those of us with ADHD are looking for solutions or ways to correct the traits that lead to problems in our day to day lives. But what if it were possible to acknowledge a trait for what it is and respect what it needs?

For example, I now know that it takes my brain quite a while to wake up and feel functional each morning. As a result, I don't schedule any meetings before 11 AM. Before I learned to listen to my brain and respect that it needed time to fully awaken, I kept trying to "correct" myself into becoming a morning person.

Put a different way, I've spent a lifetime trying to wedge myself into the mold society has created. Since I discovered that I can customize the mold, by respecting my needs, life has gotten so much easier!

Something I Said to My Coach

I'm Not Worrying, and That's What Worries Me — Believe it or not, that statement led to some clarity. Knowing that my brain was "wanting to worry", allowed the space needed to question why worry factors into my thought process in the first place. It also provided for a great laugh.

A Project Completed

Streaming PC Build — I've finally completed my streaming PC build! The hardware is chosen, purchased, and assembled into a device that I am sure is overkill for my needs. There's still software to be installed and tests to be run, but I am so excited to have the hard part of this project, the decision making, off my plate.

Over the next few weeks, I'll be streaming at various times to test programs and tweak settings so that I can "go live" with as little friction as possible. If you're following ThisADHDLife on Facebook, YouTube, or Twitch, be sure you have notifications turned on so you can get in on these test streams.

I'm planning to start a scheduled weekly stream later this summer....stay tuned!

Parting Thought

My brain is still in vacation mode and has not enjoyed the administrative parts of my career this week. In fact, it was telling me I "can't do The Friday Fives" this week.

Sometime yesterday I consciously told myself "you can get the newsletter published" and now it's in your inbox. Sometimes quotes arrive just when we need them.

If you liked today's newsletter, consider sharing it with your friends by using the buttons below,  or sending them to TheFridayFives.com.
