VideoCall Opportunities

Releasing Ministry Alliance Opps are opportunities to gather for the purpose of exploring a topic pertinent to ministry, eldering, and faith communities. Typically, on-line sessions will be:
  • one hour in length,
  • include an introduction by one or more people with experience of the topic,
  • offer time for questions and answers and further discussion, and
  • afford a means to share related information and build a collection of resources.
Friends are invited to participate in any or all of these complimentary sessions, using Zoom, a video conference application which, also, allows telephone connections. If you’re unfamiliar with Zoom, you can find more about it here:

Introducing Releasing Ministry Opps                June 13, 2019 pm 8-9 pm Eastern time
This introductory session will begin to form our community. It will include an opportunity for participants to meet one another and interactively cultivate the Releasing Ministry Alliance Opps series.
  1. How did the idea of this series arise? What is presently planned?
  2. What are your hopes for Releasing Ministry Opps?
  3. What topics interest you and others related to ministry and eldering? Who might present in a conversational, story form on them? How do we ensure the full breadth of ministry and eldering are served? How do we ensure an anti-racist, multicultural environment?
  4. What about logistics needs to be discussed? Timing? Platform? Availability?
“Under the Care of”                                             July 10, 2019  8-9 pm Eastern time
What does holding a ministry “under the care of” a meeting entail?
Sandy Springs Monthly Meeting (Baltimore Yearly Meeting) has recently wrestled with that question and chose to take a ministry for care of families under its care. We’ll hear from Windy Cooler, Patti Nesbitt, and Joan Liversidge about their experiences in this discernment and the care that comes after it. Particular focus will include:
  1. What were the biggest questions the meeting considered?
  2. What support did the meeting discern it will offer?
  3. How will the ministry and the meeting be accountable to one another?
  4. What questions are known which remain to be answered?
“Holy Abundance”                                                          Sept 26, 2019 8-9 pm Eastern time
New England Yearly Meeting’s Legacy Gift Funds, overseen by the Legacy Gift Committee, has been supporting ministries through funding and the strengthening Friends practices of stewardship and accountability since 2015. Suzanna Schell (Beacon Hill Monthly Meeting) and other members of the committee will share their experiences of “holy abundance” throughout the grant-making process from meeting with applicants, helping meetings provide spiritual and financial oversight, and sharing the work of the grantees.
Through stories, they will describe blessings of individual ministers and Quaker institutions alike as well as lessons learned. For background on the Legacy program please see https://neym.org/legacy-gift
  1. How does “holy abundance” play out in NEYM’s choice to invest in member ministries? In Legacy Fund's focal areas?
  2. How do ministries witness “holy abundance” throughout the grant cycle?
  3. How do Friends’ meetings experience “holy abundance” while supporting the ministries of applicants and grantees?
  4. What “holy abundance” may yet-come?

We will also have a chance to worship with Ghanian Friends at Hill House Friends Meeting in Accra on First Day.

  • Quaker Family Life A book-in-progress that explores original research and integrates the tender and wise voices of Friends across North America, Holding Our Families in the Light: Reclaiming Family Values as an Inclusive Ministry by Windy Cooler. The book will explore topics that are often hard to honestly and completely talk about – such as domestic violence, our relationship to money and the economy, race, queer identities, divorce, death and other tender life transitions – through the lens of family and pastoral care. It will also explore how we best support parents and children and intimate partner relationships where they are as well as the already emerging and hopeful ministries that support families.
