Better health, together  - Needs Assessment Survey
Better health, together invites you to provide information on primary health care in WA. The information you provide will remain confidential and will be used by the WA Primary Health Alliance Health Planning team to add value to their ongoing assessment of health and service needs in WA. Complete this short Survey
The purpose of this program is to provide WA Government financial assistance to community groups and local government authorities to develop basic infrastructure for sport and recreation. The program aims to increase participation in sport and recreation, with an emphasis on physical activity, through rational development of sustainable, good quality, well-designed and well-utilised facilities. Through CSRFF, the State Government will invest annually in the development of high-quality physical environments in which people can enjoy sport and recreation. There is $12 million available for allocation in the July 2019/20 funding round.

  • Seaview Park;
  • Ocean Farms;
  • Lancelin; or
  • Ledge Point.

And want to know what is happening in your Upper Coastal Region then you may be interested in attending Upper Coastal Connect Meetings (UCC).

Who Should Attend?
Committee members from each Upper Coastal Community group and interested Upper Coastal Community residents. Emails will be collected at this first meeting to enable a communications network.

What Is The Purpose Of The UCC?
For Upper Coastal communities to share information,events and concerns plus receive accurate information from UCC requested sources. This is an informal meeting.

"Imagine if all these small groups of thoughtful, committed people had the opportunity to gather in one place: to inspire and be inspired, to exchange ideas, and learn – not just from each other – but from a host of speakers who live and breathe community and community-led development. It would be a powerful gathering, steeped in possibility."

What Will The UCC Acheive?
Informed people, working in their (local) place, and in partnership with many other people, agencies and organisations to create strong, vibrant and inclusive communities.

TIPS

Goats Control Pyp Grass! You will require: 
1. A ‘waybill This is a moving permit required to move the goat from property A to the public space (Property B) where the goat is intended to be at while removing the grass.
2. Approval from the land administrator, goat owners, and the goat is tethered/chained while in that public space.
Please note: The goat cannot be abandoned/left alone in that space as a safety means for the goat as well as people nearby.

Headspace Joondalup - Did you know that Headspace Joondalup is a free and confidential service for young people aged 12-25? Headspace can help if you:

  • Are feeling worried, down, anxious or upset about anything
  • Are having hassles with friends, family, or your partner
  • Want help to reduce or stop your alcohol or other drug use.

Headpace have social workers and counsellors available for appointments, or you can drop in and they will do their best to help you. Headspace also offer an online service called ‘eheadspace’. Talk to a counsellor online, via email or phone. Or you can join in on a group chat led by a Headspace professional. Bad Call -The Best Ways For Coaches And Parents To Respond  - Bad calls happen. Of all the places where officiating mistakes happen, youth sports are probably where they matter the least. Making accurate calls is important, but if we are looking to youth sports to teach kids valuable lessons about sportsmanship, responsibility, competition, and handling adversity, then it is important to realise that missed calls play a necessary role in teaching those lessons. Read more about how to deal with bad calls in a positive way here.

Two grant streams: Project Grants and Advocacy Grants  to deliver a range of projects specifically  to improve outcomes for Australian women in five key focus areas.

Harcourts Foundation Grants Closes 30 June 2019
Varying amounts providing support for a specific event, project, item, or initiative that helps, grows, and enriches our communities.

Grants for Women Closes 30 June 2019
Up to $10,000 is available for local governments and community service organisations to implement projects that focus on addressing the unique issues faced by women. 

Safe Work Australia Sponsorship Program Closes 30 June 2019
Under $10,000 and over $10,000 for improving work health and safety and workers' compensation arrangements and providing support to the initiatives of individuals.

One Voice Community Choir Seed Funding Closes 30 June 2019
A limited number of seed funding grants of $10,000. Successful applicants will receive the seed grant and join a 12-month intensive mentoring program. 

Youth Engagement Grants ProgramAll Close 30 June 2019 
Up to $10,000 to implement projects that engage young people (10–18 yrs) in creative ways and help achieve positive outcomes. 
Up to $5,000 is available for one-off activities or initiatives.
Funding of up to $10,000 is available for longer term (over six months), community-wide strategic initiatives. Further Information (08) 6217 6888 or email.

Creativity Australia Closes 30 June 2019
Up to $10,000 to people or groups who are wanting to start their own With One Voice community choir.

Grants For Women  Closes 30 June 2019 
$10,000 is available to implement projects that focus on addressing the unique issues faced by women. Funding of up to $5,000 is available for one-off activities or initiatives, with a duration of up to six months that contribute to the program's priority areas. Projects should address one or more of the following project priority areas:

  • Health and Wellbeing
  • Safety and Justice 
  • Women's Economic Independence
  • Women in Leadership

Local Sporting Champions Closes 30 June 2019 
The Local Sporting Champions program provides financial assistance for coaches, officials and competitors aged 12-18 participating in state, national or international championships.If successful, applicants will receive $500-$750 towards the cost of attending their championships.

Adventure Grant Opening 1 July Currently no closing date. 
A $8000 cash grant plus $2000 worth of The North Face gear to help inspiring applicants to turn their expedition dreams into a reality.


The Western Australian Regional Achievement & Community Awards Closes 10 July
Designed to encourage, acknowledge and reward the valuable contributions individuals, communities and businesses are making throughout regional and rural Western Australia. List of categories Category winners will each receive a $2,000 Award Prize, a media release and every nominee will receive a certificate of achievement. Go to the online portal to select your category from the dropdown nomination award menu.


Macpac Fund for Good  Closes 31 July 2019 
Contributions of $2,000 - $10,000 for environmental and social causes related to the outdoors in the following areas:

  • Adventure-Based Social Development
  • Environmental Projects
  • Ethical Manufacturing

Children's Week Grant  Closes 16 August 2019
Up to $1,000 (excl GST) to be used during the fourth week in October.
Be Connected Activation Grant Closes 30 August 2019
$2000 to get you started in the Be Connected Network, required to register at least 30 older people over 10 months (15 in outer regional) to gain digital skills.

Cyber Security Small Business Program Ongoing 
Up to $2100 (with matching co-contribution) to small businesses (with 19 or fewer employees) to access a micro, small or standard certified small business check. 

Regional New Industries Fund Currently no closing date. 
Two streams. Up to $300,000 per region to support venture creation, accelerate small-medium enterprise growth and seed innovation initiatives.

Supply Chain Facilitation Ongoing
Up to $20,000 for businesses to access independent business advice and a supplier improvement plan to strengthen opportunities, improvements and linkages within an identified supply chain opportunity.

CSIRO Kick-Start Ongoing
$10,000 to $50,000. NEW initiative for innovative Australian start-ups and small SMEs, providing funding support and access to CSIRO’s research expertise and capabilities to help grow and develop.  

Jetstar Flying Start Program  Closes 30 September 2019
15,000 cash and $15,000 worth of travel for community groups want to help enhance the lives of people in their local community.


Veteran and Community Grants  Closes 27 Feb 2020
Veteran and Community Grants are for activities and services which improve the health and wellbeing of members of the veteran community.

Legal Duties of Your Committee - The law recognises that committee members (or directors) as well as some office holders in not-for-profit groups make important decisions about the strategic direction and activities of a group. Because committees have significant power, the law requires them to comply with legal duties like acting in good faith and in the best interests of the organisation. Where the standards set by legal duties are not met, penalties can apply (but this is very rare).

Did You Know? - As a Not For Profit, you need to register for GST if your GST turnover is $150,000 or more.
Consumer Protection Online Portal and Committee Changes - When there is a change of committee members please take the time to make sure that the departing members retire their Consumer Protection online access (Primary and Secondary User status) and the new members are linked to your association in AssociationsOnline. If you need help switching users refer to this help guide or watch the video.
Skippers Ahoy! Need to be seen! - Vessel registration sticker and number - Skippers are being reminded to properly display their vessel registration sticker and number. DoT produces a Vessel Registration brochure, providing information about the type of vessels that need to be registered and details on the type, size, colour and placement of the registration number and sticker. Current registration of a vessel provides authorities with up-to-date information about the vessel and the associated fees contribute to boating infrastructure improvements and other services to assist skippers including navigation aids, safety education and compliance patrols.

Social and Emotion Wellbeing - Are you curious about what social and emotional wellbeing means for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children? Emerging Minds has collaborated with communities across Australia to create ‘The Whole Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child’ – a new video which gives voice to the things First Nations people feel are important for keeping their children healthy, strong and connected. The video provides an insight into the deep connections First Nations people have to Country, culture, spirituality, family and community – all of which make up ‘The Whole Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child’.


Set Up Your Bedroom For Better Sleep!  A 2016 survey by the Sleep Health Foundation found that inadequate sleep affects 33-45% of Australians. Not only that but 17%  had missed work due to lack of sleep and 29% admitted making errors at work due to sleepiness or sleep problems.


Free Online Disability Awareness - The promotion of disability awareness in our workplaces and communities is vital in establishing a society where people with disability are valued and included. Developed as part of the Australian Government initiative, National Disability Coordination Officer Program, Disability Awareness Training is an eLearning training freely available in Australia. Its content is ideal for someone who has minimal or no knowledge of disability, and can be used as a refresher course to be applied across:

  • The workplace: Incorporate into induction training for new or existing staff members. It complements cultural awareness and ethics training programs that you may already have in place. It can help you to achieve social equity targets by building the capacity of your staff to understand disability.
     
  • The community: Build confidence in your interactions with people with disability, learn tips for better communication, discover where to find out more information about particular disability topics and share your new knowledge with others.

Request For Research Support
Murdoch University Psychology department are running a research project investigating a form of non-invasive brain stimulation in older adults aged 60-80. They are recruiting participants to take part in three sessions of non-invasive brain stimulation (TMS & tCDS). The Constable Care Theatrical Response Group (TRG) will be performing at the Wanneroo Youth Centres throughout term two. The TRG performances are action-oriented education programs that foster resilience, and empower young people to support each other and practice responses to a range of social issues.

Australia vs New Zealand Cricket Night Test  12 December 2019 
Western Australian cricket fans will get to experience the spectacle of a night Test when Australia plays trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand. As a part of the fixtures, Perth will also host its first Twenty 20 International in nearly a decade, with world number one-ranked Pakistan taking on Australia on November 8. It comes as the State Government, through Tourism Western Australia, successfully bid to host the International Cricket Council (ICC) T20 World Cup in 2020. Eleven men's and women's matches will be played in Perth next year. For more information, read the Tourism Minister and Sport and Recreation Minister’s joint media statement.
