If you love getting outdoors and playing make sure to have a high quality first aide kit packed to take care of any mishaps or accidents that happen.  Our family has had lots of experience with this already this year and we were very unprepared for our first couple outings.  Now we are good and prepared and ready to take on the world!  Here is a quick reference quide you can copy and print and put in with your oils so you know how to use them in an emergency.

The versatile uses, highly effective properties, and long shelf-life make each bottle a vital resource during emergency situations

1. Oregano: Contains immune-enhancing and antioxidant properties.  Effectively kills bacteria, viruses, and fungus, making it an important staple for your first aid kit. * Tip: Take several drops in an empty veggie cap to boost the immune system. Mix with water and gargle to soothe an irritated throat.

2. Peppermint:  Very cooling on hot days.  Alleviates upset stomach and promotes clear breathing. Allergies, congestion, diarrhea, heartburn, indigestion, fatigue, morning sickness, tension headache and migraines.* Tip: Apply to neck and forehead with Lavender to calm feelings of tension.

3. Lemon: Powerful cleansing agent that purifies the air and cleans surfaces. Cough, Sore Throat.  Tip: A few drops of Lemon will improve the taste and quality of your water supply.

4. Lavender: Calms emotions during times of stress; soothes irritated skin and lips. 
Bee stings, bug bites, sunburn, headache, rash, sprains, acne, cuts, scrapes, diaper rash, itching, poison ivy, skin allergies and insomnia.  Tip: Apply a drop to a bug bite to help ease minor itchiness and discomfort.

5. Marjoram: Soothes menstrual cramps, sore muscles.  

6. Melaleuca: Soothe Skin Irritations.  Bug Bites.  Fight Bacterial, Fungal and Viral Infections.  Contains potent cleansing properties for external and internal uses.  Use to treat head lice, make a spray and massage into scalp.  Relieve Congestion and  Opens Respiratory Tract.  Helps Treat Scabies.  Fights Toenail Fungus and Ringworm.  Improve Foot Odor.  Kills Mold.  Tip: Apply 1–2 drops to cleanse affected area on the skin.

7. Helichrysum: Bleeding, Bruises, Inflammation, Sprains, and Swelling. Read more on Helichrysum below.

8. Frankincense: Promotes cellular health.  Enhances the properties of other oils while reducing inflammation and supporting skin tissue recovery.  Apply Frankincense with other oils to speed up the healing process of minor cuts and wounds - you can even mix Lavender, Lemon, and Frankincense with coconut oil for a DIY Neosporin!* Tip: Take 1-2 drops in a veggie capsule.

9. doTERRA Breathe /Easy Air Respiratory Blend: Promotes feelings of clear airways. Increases Oxygen.  Tip: Rub on chest or around sinuses before hiking if congested.

10. DigestZen / ZenGest Oil or Softgels: Food Poisoning, diarrhea, constipation, motion sickness and sinus infections.  Helps proper digestion, calms stomach upset.* Tip: Take a softgel or take with water after consuming hard to digest foods.  For sinus infections dilute with FCO and rub on stomach.

11. Clove: Promotes blood circulation, benefits cardiovascular health, and helps ward off free radicals.  Abscesses.  Primarily used as a pain killer for toothaches.  Powerful Antibacterial. * Tip: Apply one drop to soothe teeth or gums.

12. TerraShield: Protects against insects. Tip: Rub or spray  on any exposed skin.  At home put around your door or window seals to deter insects from entering.

13. doTERRA On Guard Protective Blend: Strengthens immune function, protects against elements that can weaken the immune system.* Tip: Take softgels for an ultimate immunity defense; dilute with witch hazel and Lemon to clean hands, doorknobs, and other community surfaces.

14. Deep Blue Rub: Apply after physical exertion, to sore or stiff muscles and joints.

15. Roman Chamomile: Bee Stings, Blisters, Dry Skin, PMS, Rashes.

16. doTERRA Fractionated Coconut Oil: has an indefinite shelf life and does not require refrigeration. It can also be used to calm sensitive skin reactions to essential oils by applying directly to the affected area.

Helichrysum Essential oil highlight

Helichrysum is first aide in a bottle!  Many scientists are simply blown away by the restorative ability of Helichrysum essential oil on the skin and rarely is there any negativity or warnings surrounding its use. When in doubt, most people reach for Helichryusm or Frankincense to promote and support the body’s ability to heal. Whenever we have any cuts or bleeding we grab the helichrysum and it stops it almost immediately.

DIY SUNBURN SOOTHER

  • 10 drops Helichrysum essential oil
  • 10 drops Frankincense essential oil
  • 5 drops Peppermint essential oil
  • 5 drops Lavender essential oil
  • ¾ c. raw refined organic Coconut Oil
  • 2 Tbsp. Shea Butter

Place the coconut oil and shea butter in a glass container and gently melt it in a double boiler or a hot water bath until all liquid. Remove from heat and let cool slightly. Add the essential oils and gently swirl or stir to mix. Pop in the refrigerator to solidify quickly or let sit at room temperature and it will gradually harden. Keep in your cooler on a hot day for relief after sunbathing, or use after a long day in the sun.

Note: You can also replace the coconut oil and shea butter with just fractionated coconut oil or jojojba oil, and mix in a glass spray bottle for an easy after-sun spritz.

Grilled Pineapple Lettuce Cups

Ingredients
1 ¾ cup water
1 ¾ cup canned coconut milk
4–6 drops Lime oil
2 cups jasmine or basmati rice
½ teaspoon salt
30 ounces fresh pineapple, cored and sliced into ½ inch rounds
½ cup butter, melted
½ cup brown sugar
½ of a fresh lime, juiced
1 head butter lettuce, leaves removed from head and washed
2 green onions, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, finely chopped

Instructions
Coconut lime rice

  1. Combine water, coconut milk, four drops Lime oil, and rice in a medium-sized saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, cover and decrease heat to low.
  2. Cook for 15–20 minutes, until liquid has absorbed. Prepare pineapple while the rice cooks.
  3. Remove rice from heat and let sit covered for five minutes.

Grilled Pineapple

  1. Preheat grill to medium heat.
  2. In a small mixing bowl, combine butter, brown sugar, fresh lime juice, two drops Lime oil, and salt.
  3. Place pineapple slices on a baking sheet and drizzle with the brown sugar mixture.
  4. Place the pineapple on the preheated grill, sugar side down, and grill two to three minutes or until sugar mixture is golden and caramelized. Brush the tops with the remaining brown sugar mixture left behind on the baking sheet using a silicone basting brush.
  5. Flip and grill the other side two–three minutes or until the sugar mixture is golden and caramelized. Remove from heat and transfer to the baking sheet. Cut each round in half.

Lettuce Cups

  1. Divide the rice between the lettuce leaves. Sprinkle rice with green onions. Top with half round of grilled pineapple. Sprinkle with chopped cilantro. Serve.

Tip: Start with one drop of Lime oil and add to taste. 


Science corner

Oregano is a very potent and powerful essential oil. Its primary chemical constituent is carvacrol, a phenol that possesses antioxidant properties when ingested. Due to its high phenol content, caution should be taken when inhaling or diffusing Oregano; only one to two drops is needed.
