Having co-authored the much loved Monsarrat colonial crime series with her father Tom, Meg will talk about the fourth book in the series The Ink Stain. Meg will also discuss her first solo novel, Fled, a gripping historical adventure based on the life of convict Mary Bryant.

Did you know?
At Bowral Library we have merged the non-fiction and quarto items into one collection.

The collection begins at the original 001 bay and winds around numerically to 998.

For your information, the area comprises 300 shelves with an average of 28 books on each shelf. That’s an approximate total of 8400 items and yes, we did move every one of them, sometimes twice. It took us 8 ½ hours and we walked 9830 steps and 6.87 kilometres.

We think the shelves look pretty amazing and we hope you will be very happy with the changes. It means, generally, that you will only have to go to one location to find the information you're looking for. Please be aware that the signage is not perfectly correct, but we are working on updating it. If you have any queries library staff will be delighted to help you.

Archival Revival : discovering our local history
Local landmark: The Gib

For many in the Southern Highlands the Gib is part of our everyday lives. It might be part of a daily commute or the backdrop to the day’s activity. How much do most of us really know about this significant local landmark though? The Gib is a wonderful resource for discovering more about State Heritage listed Mount Gibraltar Reserve. Copies are available for loan through the library or you can access the eBook through Council’s website.

Local Studies is open 2.00pm-4.00pm Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, upstairs in the Old Town Hall, in front of Bowral Library. See what we have in the collection here.

The mother-in-law by Sally Hepworth

Brand new addition to the Book Club Kit collection!

Someone once told me that you have two families in your life - the one you are born into and the one you choose. Yes, you may get to choose your partner, but you don't choose your mother-in-law. The cackling mercenaries of fate determine it all.

Wingecarribee Libraries have 72 Book Club Kits available for loan so you can share your reading with friends.

Author of the month : Alison Lester

Alison Lester is one of Australia’s most loved Children’s authors having written and illustrated over 25 picture books. Alison has won numerous prestigious awards including the Children’s Book Council of Australia Picture Book of the Year award for Are we there yet? Alison became Australia’s first Children’s Book Laureate in 2012, a position shared with Boori Monty Pryor for two years.

Alison was born in 1952, in Foster, Victoria. She grew up on a farm by the sea and had a very old Shetland pony who was so quiet she could dress her up in shirts and cardigans. Alison was given a book at the age of 6, How to draw horses, which showed her how to draw a horse and bring it to life with shading and detail. She spent hours under the plum tree in the front yard, drawing horses with chalk on an old blackboard easel.

Alison’s career spans decades with books published in many languages and children all over the world enjoying her stories. Her picture books mix imaginary worlds with everyday life. Alison travels to schools around Australia, helping students and teachers develop their own stories.

Alison’s latest title, Tricky’s bad day, along with Noni the pony rescues a joey, have been shortlisted for the Children’s Book Council of Australia, Book of the year, Early Childhood award. Winners will be announced on Friday 16 August 2019.

Other titles by Alison include Noni the pony rescues a joey, Monster Party, The very noisy baby, Are we there yet?, The journey home, Hello little babies, My dog Bigsy, Baby days, Noni the pony goes to the beach, just to name a few.
