Pastor's Devotional...
June 6, 2019
I’m enjoying our “God in the Movies” sermon series; the latest movie focus being “The Incredibles 2”, an animated movie on a family of superheroes. Jesus, of course, is the greatest hero, incredibly enabling us all to be more heroic.
In His lineage, Matthew 1, we see clearly who we were meant to be, who we are and who we can be. It’s arranged in 3 sections: (1) from Abraham to David, the great king, Israel at their best (man was born, created for greatness), (2) down to the fall, defeat and exile of Israel in Babylon (man lost his greatness), (3) down to Jesus, the incredible hero who restores man from slavery to his flaws/weaknesses, sins.
Superhero movies sell like hotcakes because we like to identify with them and live vicariously through them. This same factor accounts for the Scriptures outselling all books manifold! Know that worshipping, serving, emulating, living for this most incredible Hero of all actually does transform us, inside (attitudes) and out (actions).
Prayer: Holy Spirit, make me a little more like Jesus this day. Show me opportunities big and small to rescue another. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
