Medicaid Transformation County Playbook Available

As the state transitions Medicaid to managed care, DHHS has launched a web page with information to help support counties. Called the Medicaid Managed Care County Playbook, it will be updated regularly.

Governor Cooper Announces Paid Parental Leave Policy

State employees in cabinet agencies will receive paid parental leave beginning Sept. 1. Paid parental leave is a strategy in the NC Early Childhood Action Plan to help improve the well-being of young children.

Program for Students With Disabilities Graduates Third Class

The Project SEARCH Transition to Work program provides internships to students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This year nine students graduated from the program. Most graduates have gone on to competitive, integrated employment in their community.

Dr. Michelle Aurelius has been named Chief Medical Examiner for North Carolina. The office of the Chief Medical Examiner is a branch in the Epidemiology Section of DHHS' Division of Public Health.

Summer is here. Take steps to ensure water safety, including keeping a close watch on children and avoiding rip currents at the coast. Drowning deaths among young children often happen when children access pools without supervision or when adults are distracted. 

Public Invited to Comment on Social Services Block Grant Plan

The Social Services Block Grant Plan outlines how $74 million in federal funds will be spent in North Carolina in the coming state fiscal year. DHHS will hold a public hearing for comments on the proposed plan on June 17 in Raleigh.

Watch the NC Opioid Summit

The 2019 Opioid Misuse & Overdose Prevention Summit will take place June 11-12 and will allow North Carolinians to learn about solutions to address the opioid epidemic. Registration is closed, but keynote speeches, including from Governor Roy Cooper and DHHS Secretary Mandy Cohen, will be live streamed. The NC Opioid Action Plan 2.0 will be unveiled at the summit.
