Network News

June 2019

The Discovery Network, a statewide program of the Museum of Discovery, was initiated in 2006 with funding from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation. The Network's goal is to make hands-on, interactive STEM learning more accessible to the state’s school children and their families. The Network provides high-quality professional development, exhibits, and STEM kits for its members.
STEM Excellence Pathway
Five schools completed the STEM Excellence Pathway program last month. Each school participated in three workshops led by Discovery Network educators, set annual goals for themselves, developed and completed action plans, networked with peers and grew their STEM education programs, all within the 2018-2019 academic year.

Congratulations to Brady Elementary, Forest Park Elementary, Terry Elementary and Williams Magnet Elementary for completing their first year in the Pathway!

Greenbrier Westside Elementary completed their second year in the Pathway - congratulations!
The Network is currently enrolling schools for the 2019-2020 academic year.

Network-ing About Town
Tinkerfest @ Toad Suck Daze
Downtown Conway

Discovery Network and Museum of Discovery educators and staff took part in the second annual Tinkerfest @ Toad Suck Daze last month. We worked with area schools who developed and facilitated their own Tinkerfest activities.

Thank you to the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce and Acxiom for their contributions to such a great event!
Thanks to the Blue & You Foundation for a Healthier Arkansas we were able to provide a sensory station at this year's event.

Large events and festivals can be overwhelming for some individuals due to sensory overload. The Sensory Station offers simple modifications to help create an accepting and inclusive environment for everyone.
Dream Night @ Little Rock Zoo

We were also able to take our Sensory Station and sensory exhibits to the Little Rock Zoo's first ever "Dream Night." Congratulations to the Zoo for putting on such a successful event for Arkansas Children's Hospital patients and their families.
