30 years ago today on June 4, 1989, thousands of pro-democracy activists and students gathered in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square to protest against their authoritarian government. Civilians of all backgrounds came together to take a stand in favor of political liberalization and human rights. Martial law was declared and the dictatorship sent the People’s Liberation Army on a mission to crush the protests, murdering thousands and smashing the dreams and hopes of a generation.

In memory of Tank Man and so many others who stood up to tyranny on Six Four, and in recognition of the ongoing and growing abuses in China today, the Human Rights Foundation (HRF) has released a special video segment.

The Truth about China’s Million Person Muslim Prison Camps” tells the story of Uighur activist Tahir Imin, and is a stark reminder of how we all need to do what we can to help the Uighur people. Once you've shared this video, your friends can no longer say they didn't know about what was happening to the Uighurs.

This informative video is the latest HRF effort to shed light on the crimes of China’s dictatorship. Our Havel Prize was inspired by the Lady Liberty statue built by students in Tiananmen 30 years ago; we have hosted collaborations with world-famous artists like the Gao Brothers and global celebrities like Denise Ho; we have featured Oslo Freedom Forum talks from Nury Turkel, Yang Jianli, Grace Gao, Ti-Anna Wang, Fang Zheng, Rebiya Kadeer, Anastasia Lin, Dhondup Wangchen, Ai Weiwei, Wan Yanhai, Michael Anti, Lobsang Sangay and many others; we have waged advocacy on behalf of political prisoners like Liu Xiaobo; we have translated into Mandarin important human rights texts and essays; we have included one of the leaders of Hong Kong's Umbrella movement into our Freedom Fellowship; we have advocated against the Chinese dictatorship joining the UN Human Rights Council; and we have established the Oslo Freedom Forum in Taiwan, which acts as a beacon of democracy for East Asia and on September 13, 2019, will be a gathering point for human rights defenders across the world.

As we remember the brave students who fell in Tiananmen Square 30 years ago, please share this video of Tahir Imin's story to help people learn about what’s happening in Xinjiang today.
