Welcome to the CaHPSA E-Newsletter!
Hello CaHPSA Supporters!

In our new CaHPSA monthly e-newsletters, we will simplify health policy and healthcare reform. Each issue will break down complex topics that will help members strengthen their understanding of the healthcare system and how to improve it. Our e-newsletters will also feature volunteer and leadership opportunities, book and media recommendations, and student-led advocacy efforts.

CaHPSA students throughout California are taking action right now! They are attending legislative visits with lawmakers, writing and calling their legislators, organizing skill-building events, and communicating health policy research.

Students are helping families get the health coverage they need across the state by serving as Certified Enrollment Counselors through CaHPSA’s Project White Coat. Our 15 medical, graduate, and undergraduate campus chapters are hubs of student-led advocacy and education.

These are just some of the ways that our students are developing concrete skills that allow them to serve as more effective healthcare advocates.

As the student section of California Physicians Alliance (CaPA), CaHPSA joins a network of physicians and healthcare advocates in supporting legislation that will lead to a more just and equitable healthcare system. CaPA physicians offer mentorships and share their expertise with our students. This relationship fosters both personal and professional growth among our CaHPSA members, who are aspiring health and medical professionals themselves.

As a CaHPSA member, you can get involved in any of our statewide projects and learn directly from CaPA physicians. Connect with our team today to learn more! Email us, visit our website, and follow us on Facebook and Twitter.

We look forward to staying connected with you all and hope you’ll check out our monthly CaHPSA e-newsletters!

Onward,
The CaHPSA Team

In every issue, we will break down a component of CaHPSA and share how you can get involved. Here we present an overview of our new Research Communications Committee.

Research Communications Committee (RCom)

The CaHPSA Research Communications Committee (RCom) was created to support statewide health advocacy efforts by creating print and online publications that are well designed, relevant, and easy to digest. One of its products is this CaHPSA e-Newsletter!

How to Join:
Please click HERE to read more about RCom and how to join our statewide staff. ALL medical, graduate, and undergraduate students, as well as recent graduates are welcome to join!

CaHPSA Recommendations

In this section, we will share media and literature recommendations. Below is a film we highly encourage our members to check out!

Power to Heal

Power to Heal demonstrates how grassroots movements and an organized desire for change can make a great impact in healthcare reform and health policy. The film explores the racial discrimination and health disparities created by the American healthcare system and how Medicare brought about health equity and meaningful change for African-Americans. Click HERE to read more about this film.
Meet CaHPSA

We're a group of enthusiastic and motivated students who are mobilizing all across the state to speak up in support of healthcare reform! As future members of the health workforce, CaHPSA members take action knowing that they can use their voice and skills to advocate for changes to the healthcare system. Contact us HERE to learn more and get involved! No previous advocacy or health policy experience needed.
