NOTES FROM THE STACKS
Collaboration builds strong communities.  With this in mind, the Collier County Public Library will be collaborating with various agencies throughout the summer.  And all you need is your library card!

Twice this summer the Naples Botanical Gardens will be offering free family admission to the Gardens.  During the select dates of June 11 – June 16 and August 31 – September 2, show your library card and receive free general admission for you and your family.

Join the Library and the Everglades Astronomical Society, Inc. as we blast off and explore a Universe of Stories.  Always wondered if there is life on other planets?  Now is your chance to ask the experts!

Other collaborations this summer afford library patrons access to experts from NCH Wellness, The Alzheimer’s Association, and the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.  Programs graciously sponsored by the Friends of the Library of Collier County, Inc. will give you access to movie producers, historians, authors, and chefs.

Join us this summer and meet the experts in your community!

BRANCH SPOTLIGHT: GOLDEN GATE

For longtime neighborhood residents and tenants, this branch is a welcoming oasis. “Similar to a major metropolitan library, Golden Gate is an indispensable and bustling neighborhood center and cultural incubator, serving an age-diverse, multi-lingual community that resides here year-round,” notes branch manager David Chalick, adding, “On any given day, chances are most patrons rode their bikes or walked here from school. With 20 computers and free internet, we also serve those without access to broadband at home – more common than you’d think.”

From college prep and power-point seminars to programming partnerships with Collier County’s NAACP chapter, a significant portion of GG’s focus is building a foundation of success for patrons wanting to excel. A key highlight: bi-lingual youth services librarian Kathy Hemmat and her project partners shed light on the college preparation process during So You Want To Go To College, a summer series for 10th and 11th graders seeking a leg up on the complex application and financial aid requirements.

STORIES FROM THE BRANCHES
Finally, a lost duckling was found wandering the parking lot at the Headquarters Regional Library. Susan Petr, head of Children's Services, rescued him and turned him over to The Conservancy for rehabilitation. Poor little thing! We wish the little guy (or girl) all the best.
