Support Gun Violence Prevention #WearOrange
From Moms Demand Action
for Gun Sense in America

Wear Orange Columbia
Saturday, June 8, 2pm
The Plaza at Joseph Square, Columbia

RSVP HERE

Wear Orange is a time for everyone in our community to come together to show our collective power in addressing gun violence.

When high school student Hadiya Pendleton was shot and killed in 2013, her friends turned their grief into action, and wore orange to raise awareness about gun violence prevention. This June marks the 5th year we’ll be bringing the community together to #WearOrange and take action.

On the first Friday in June, we'll honor all lives taken and injured by gun violence as part of National Gun Violence Awareness Day. Then, on June 8, we'll turn out in Columbia, bringing together all members of our community to show our solidarity as we stand together to prevent gun violence.

Join us for our  Wear Orange Community Resource Fair and Family Fun Day, in Columbia, on Saturday, June 8th! We are bringing together groups with information about local community resources and family-friendly activities, from 2:00-4:00PM. The event is free and open to the public! Wear orange, grab a friend and join us for this special day of community!

Writers Needed!

Hala Ayala is running for re-election for Virginia House of Delegates, District 51 in November 2019.  Our Postcard Brigade has committed to writing 150 postcards to recently registered to vote between the ages of 18-24 years old.
The purpose of this drive is to quickly thank voters for registering (reinforcing their identity as voters) and to introduce them to Hala and encourage them to vote for her in November (early name recognition).  If you would like to help, email IndivisibleHoCoMD@gmail.com and ask to join the Postcard Brigade.

LET OUR LIGHT SHINE
This week, Virginia’s General Assembly passed a budget including Medicaid expansion. When Democratic Governor Ralph Northam signs it into law, Virginia will become the 34th state to accept Medicaid expansion.  As a result, over 300,000 Virginians will now have health coverage under the policy. This is possible because of your work last summer and fall, knocking on doors and making phone calls to flip seats in Virginia The candidates you worked to elect are now the delegates casting deciding votes on Medicaid expansion. We've got a chance this fall to flip even more seats and ensure smart decent policy for the rest of the country.  Let's get to work!
