DINNER RECEPTION FOR THE GREECE BUSINESS DELEGATION

On Friday May 31st, Mr. Karri Kivela, EABC Executive Director was invited by Mr. John Fotiadis, Chairman of the Hellenic-Thai Chamber of Commerce to join the Dinner Reception for the Greece Business Delegation and representatives of Board of Trade, Board of Investment and other Thai Government organizations at Hyatt Regency Sukhumvit.
 

OECD-THAILAND COUNTRY PROGRAMME ON DEVELOPING COMPETITION POLICY

On Wed 29th May, EABC attended the OECD – Thailand Country Programme on Developing Competition Policy Forum at Centra by Centara Government Complex Hotel & Convention Center.

The Thai – OECD Country Programme is a 3-year cooperative project (2018-2020) to bring Thailand closer to the OECD by adopting OECD standards while supporting its domestic reform agenda. The forum explored specific regulatory challenges and opportunities focused on new businesses, e-commerce, financial technologies, and disruptive technologies, providing Thai policymakers with the strategic foresight needed to address the gap between policy and technology.
 

ADVERTISEMENT OPPORTUNITY POSITION PAPER 2019

This Paper is a resource for the Royal Thai Government’s regulators and policymakers to learn about the issues and to find the best approach, our contribution to improve Thailand’s competitiveness for the mutual benefit of the two economies, and for long‐term European investment in Thailand. The Position Paper also plays an important role in the meeting with the European Embassies and the Bilateral Chambers of Commerce.

Advertisements will be included in this Position Paper which again will be a book. This is an excellent opportunity to make a company known directly to high level officials in the Thai government.

The Position Paper 2019 Launch Event will take place in Early September.

 

GUILLOTINE PROJECT

 
The Guillotine Project is a fast track way of reviewing laws and regulations and removing unnecessary or unwanted laws and regulations, or revising them, according to a process.
Please do submit proposals for change or removal of any laws or regulations which are about licences or permits of any kind.

Some 1,000 issues, regulations or laws are expected to processed by May 2019. The first batch of 370 of these can be viewed on the ‘Simple and Smart License’ site

U.S. NOW REQUIRING SOCIAL MEDIA DETAILS FROM ALL VISA APPLICANTS
WASHINGTON, Jun 1, 2019
The State Department is now requiring nearly all applicants for U.S. visas to submit their social media usernames, previous email addresses and phone numbers. It’s a vast expansion of the Trump administration’s enhanced screening of potential immigrants and visitors. 

The change, which was proposed in March 2018, is expected to affect about 15 million foreigners who apply for visas to enter the United States each year.

5G: EE LAUNCHES UK'S NEXT-GENERATION MOBILE NETWORK
London, May 30, 2019
EE has launched the UK's first next-generation 5G mobile network, with a concert by rapper Stormzy live-streamed from a boat on the River Thames.

5G mobile networks offer faster downloads, but customers will need a new handset to take advantage.

At first, the service will only be available in limited areas of Belfast, Birmingham, Cardiff, Edinburgh, London and Manchester. Rival Vodafone plans to switch on its 5G service in the coming weeks.

CENTRAL RETAIL AIMS TO BECOME FIRST PLASTIC BAG-FREE CHAIN
May 28, 2019
Central Retail, led by Central Department Store together with Central Group’s retail businesses, has launched their “Central Love the Earth ‘Say No to Plastic Bags’” campaign.

Through this campaign, it aims to become Thailand’s first plastic bag-free retailer within by the end of 2019, in order to improve the environment while also expressing its social responsibility in line with the government’s agenda. Customers are encouraged to decline plastic bags and instead bring their own bags to earn up to 40 The 1 points. The campaign will run from June 5 onward, with an aim to reduce 150 million plastic bags during 2019.

THE $100,000 TESLA SENT TO SPACE A YEAR AGO HAS TRAVELED FARTHER THAN ANY CAR IN HISTORY
In February 2018, Elon Musk decided to send a $100k Tesla Roadster to space. The car was aboard the SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket. Now a year after that, the car is still cruising around our solar system. In November 2018 last year, SpaceX confirmed that the car had actually moved past Mars. The company also noted that it’s likely that the car will also be able to fly past Mercury and Venus. At the moment, the car is just too far away to see even with a powerful telescope.
