The BID kicked off the month of May with Fashion Week on Jerome Avenue. We hosted a Prom and Graduation Fashion Show to encourage young people to shop local and save on dresses, tuxes, and accessories.

All throughout the month local artist Lady K Fever worked to complete a public art project on Jerome Avenue, sponsored by Councilman Andrew Cohen, Art Bridge, and the Jerome Gun Hill BID.

In addition, the BID did a walking tour of the district with a team from the NYC Department of Transportation and the Public Policy Lab to discuss opportunities for partnership.
Looking ahead in June the BID is hosting a Commercial Lease Assistance outreach tour in the BID with our partners at Brooklyn Legal Services in order to connect small business owners with free legal assistance.

Coming up on June 21st will be a Small Business Recognition BBQ at the Keeper's House in partnership with Councilman Andrew Cohen's office. We will be honoring 22 businesses in the BID that have been open for 25 years or more.

NYC SBS released their FY18 BID Trends Report which features the BID's retail attraction programming.

Lady K Fever's work on Jerome Avenue,
entitled "Ode to the 4 Train in the Bronx".

Lady K Fever is an internationally recognized street artist and a neighborhood resident of the Jerome Ave and E Gun Hill Road area. Each of the four columns are painted with a neighborhood scene, inspired by local wildlife, neighborhood architecture, and the 4 train. The columns feature the Bronx's official flower, the day lily, prominently. This project was completed in partnership with Art Bridge and Councilman Andy Cohen's office.
Fashion Week on Jerome Avenue

Our first ever fashion show was a big hit. The BID partnered with UpLife Foundation, Beauty in Depth, and Evita USA, a small business that has been selling evening wear on Jerome Avenue for over 30 years. Shoppers tried on dresses, got free 5 minute makeovers, and entered to win $250 towards their prom and graduation needs. Congratulations to our winner Aaliyah!

Walking tour of the BID with NYC DOT

Nivardo Lopez, Borough Commissioner of the Bronx DOT, and his staff, came for a walking tour of the BID to see firsthand issues facing our merchants and consumers on our crowded sidewalks. The BID will work closely with DOT and their sister agencies to connect the BID to resources to improve the conditions on our sidewalks to make it easier to walk and shop.
