God's Spirit, Always Moving
Oftentimes missions & discouragement go together, but there is a short article that has cycled through my social media feed multiple times. It is about a missionary in a remote jungle who leaves after years of service resolved that he was a failure; however decades later several village churches are discovered as a result of his work. Just recently I was talking with an old friend who was planting simple churches several years ago in a tough Northeastern city. He expressed some similar feelings, but also described pockets of new communities that had popped up even as he felt he was moving to the sidelines. And about a year ago, I was contacted by our very first house church leaders in the Bronx. I baptized them in 2003, and they reached out to let me know their teenage sons were now being baptized. One of his joys in life today is giving free haircuts to the homeless of his community. The Kingdom of God has a way of breaking out despite our own very real feelings of failure or success as missionaries. The Spirit moves like a wind, and what a privilege to get to be part of it!
