The Nations in Philly

This Summer a GCMI missionary takes the first steps in beginning a GCMI mission initiative in Philadelphia. Since 2000, Philly has seen a 69% increase in residents born outside of the U.S. Many of these newest neighbors in Philadelphia moved from China, Vietnam, Dominican Republic, India & several other nations. Many of the city's newcomers land in South Philly and Northeast Philly -- where GCMI's work in the city will begin -- and the city represents one of the largest Albanian communities in North America.  Long known as one of North America's Muslim cities as well, Philadelphia is a dynamic global city, and as one of GCMI's newest 'mission fields' we are praying for God to raise up workers in the city. Pray with us for the nations next door in Philadelphia.

CMF & GCMI in NYC

This week marks the first day of a new college Summer internship in New York City. Our team in NY is welcoming three college students from Oklahoma Christian and from Johnson University-Tennessee. It's a new partnership opportunity formed over the last year between Christian Missionary Fellowship and Global City Mission. Pray that this experience produces fruit among the nations in New York City and mobilizes new missionaries to make disciples at the world's crossroads.
God's Spirit, Always Moving
Oftentimes missions & discouragement go together, but there is a short article that has cycled through my social media feed multiple times. It is about a missionary in a remote jungle who leaves after years of service resolved that he was a failure; however decades later several village churches are discovered as a result of his work.  Just recently I was talking with an old friend who was planting simple churches several years ago in a tough Northeastern city. He expressed some similar feelings, but also described pockets of new communities that had popped up even as he felt he was moving to the sidelines. And about a year ago, I was contacted by our very first house church leaders in the Bronx. I baptized them in 2003, and they reached out to let me know their teenage sons were now being baptized. One of his joys in life today is giving free haircuts to the homeless of his community. The Kingdom of God has a way of breaking out despite our own very real feelings of failure or success as missionaries. The Spirit moves like a wind, and what a privilege to get to be part of it!
