NATA Foundation Updates

Did you know that the NATA Research & Education Foundation is the ONLY charitable nonprofit that exists only to advance the AT Profession?  The Foundation champions research, supports education and enhances knowledge to optimize the clinical experience and outcomes within the diverse patient populations served by the athletic training profession.

In order to be able to make an impact on the AT profession, the NATA Foundation must raise funds through multiple efforts, year round. Here are 2 easy ways to support the NATA Foundation’s fundraising efforts right now, which in turn, furthers the advancement of the AT profession.

SILENT AUCTION - Bidding is now open!!!

Bid now and often during our silent auction.  We have sports memorabilia, apparel, pop culture memorabilia, AT equipment, textbooks, event tickets - MANY great items to choose from.  The auction closes at 11:00AM on June 27th.  Click on the photo below to enter the auction site.

The auction items will be on display during NATA2019, but you don’t have to attend to participate!  You can bid from home, and we can ship any item you.

Johnson & Johnson’s Donate-A-Photo Campaign

The NATA Foundation will receive $1 for every photo donated via the "Donate A Photo" app, June 19 - August 19.  You can donate one photo every day, and the Foundation will receive up to $15,000!

Programs With A Purpose

Faculty Mentor Program

The 2019/2020 NATA Foundation Faculty Mentor Program will kick off their programming in June at the NATA convention in Las Vegas.  During the Faculty Mentor Luncheon, mentor and mentees will be able to meet and talk with others who have gone through the program previously.

The mission of the NATA Foundation Research/Faculty mentor program is to provide guidance and mentorship to junior faculty members (pre-tenured; less than 6 years of experience as a faculty member) involved in higher education within the athletic training profession.

Research Grants

NATA Foundation research grant proposals are still being processed.  Grant recipients will be notified at the end of June.

District Discovery

The last three months have been busy for NATA Districts 3, 5, 7, 8, and 10, as they all hosted their annual clinical symposiums and helped support the NATA Foundation with a variety of events. There were cornhole championships, raffles with local prizes, silent auctions, guessing games, meet and greets, and VIP receptions.  All these great events were designed to promote the Foundation and inform athletic trainers about the amazing support for education and clinical research that the NATA Foundation provides.

THANKS District 5 for hosting us at your meeting in Tulsa, OK

At the Mid America Athletic Trainers’ Association Clinical Symposium & Members Meeting on March 28-30th, the NATA Foundation and MAATA partnered for a fundraiser raffle with the theme of “Taste of Oklahoma”. Chandra Dyer and Ron Walker solicited an impressive haul of goods, resulting in three baskets for the raffle which raised well over $800.  Special thanks to David Carr, Phil Vardiman, Dawn Emerson, and Melani Kelly for their assistance with the raffle.  Congratulations to the Foundation's At-Large Director, Phil Vardiman for receiving the D5 MAATA Athletic Training Educator of the Year Award.

THANKS District 10 for hosting us at your meeting in Spokane, WA

At the Northwest Athletic Trainers’ Association Clinical Symposium & Members Meeting on March 28-31st, the NATA Foundation and NWATA joined together to add 6 Circle of Champions Members and raised roughly $2700 for the NATA Foundation. We also honored and remembered our friend and longtime Seattle Seahawks Athletic Trainer, Jim Whitesel, by continuing to grow an endowment fund in his name. A special thanks to Valerie Rich Moody and her students for running the cornhole tournament.

THANKS District 7 for hosting us at
your meeting in Scottsdale, AZ

At the Rocky Mountain Athletic Trainers’ Association Clinical Symposium & Members Meeting on April 14-17th, the NATA Foundation and RMATA joined together for the second year and held a silent auction fundraiser. Items from NMATA (State President Aaron Stem), steel trailer hitch covers and AT logo steel plates  from ZiaHitch were the featured items. We raised $500 for the Foundation, and D7 had their best Foundation fundraiser to date. Thanks to Bart Peterson and Dominic DiManna for assisting with the booth.

THANKS District 8 for hosting us at
your meeting in San Diego, CA

At the Far West Athletic Trainers’ Association Clinical Symposium & Members Meeting on April 25-28th, the NATA Foundation and FWATA raised around $400 through the “Guess How Many Rolls of Pre-wrap” contest. Casey Wilson (Azusa Pacific University) was the winner, and all 484 rolls of pre-wrap were donated to local athletic trainers to support their work in schools. FWATA was also proud to add 20 members to the Circle of Champions at the meeting by emphasizing the “D8 Pay it Forward” motto. Incentives were used to encourage members to see the value of the Foundation and to recruit colleagues to join. Shout out to Kavin Tsang and Tom Abdenour for their dedication to the Foundation at FWATA.

THANKS District 3 for hosting us at
your meeting in Ocean City, MD

At the Far West Athletic Trainers’ Association Clinical Symposium & Members Meeting on May 17-19th, the NATA Foundation and MAATA set the bar high by raising more than $1,500 for the NATA Foundation through its silent auction and VIP reception. Supporting the NATA Foundation

AT Loyal Giving Society

When Athletic Trainers support the NATA Foundation, their investment yields great returns:
  • It will ensure practical research and education programs that will benefit them personally.
  • It will give them the tools necessary to provide the best care possible.
  • It will meaningfully help to solidify the athletic trainer’s role as the healthcare provider of choice for the physically active.
In recognition of its 25th Anniversary, the NATA Foundation created the AT Loyal Giving Society.  NATA Member’s donations are lifetime accumulated through the end of each calendar year.  Members have the opportunity to “level up” each year based on their giving accumulated totals.

Each year a member “levels up”, they will receive a new AT Loyal lapel pin signifying their commitment to the NATA Foundation and the opportunities their programs provide for the AT profession.

AT Loyal Levels:
Legacy Club           $10,000+
Platinum Donor      $5,000-$9,999
Gold Donor            $2,500-$4,999
Silver Donor           $1,000-$2,499
Bronze Donor         $500-$999
Foundation Donor  $250-$499
Foundation Friend  $1-$249

All donors that “leveled up” during calendar year 2018 will be notified via email prior to the convention in Las Vegas.  Those that leveled up can come by the NATA Foundation booth and pick up their new lapel pins.
