Giving People Dignity

Martha Kirabo & Hassan Mwanje walking participants through a session. They run the workshop together with Martin Etter
In the third week of January 2019 , VCU run the second Transformational Development (TD) - Week 1 workshop at Luwala Full Gospel Church, Kamengo, Mpigi District. Some of the testimonies from this workshop were captured in our March 2019 Newsletter. Below is another testimony from that very same workshop. A total of 17 participants from 7 churches were in attendance. The majority of these churches already partake of the 'Equipping To Serve' bible interpretation training offered by VCU.

Many people, including christians, struggle with their identity and as a result they leave a hopeless life and often don’t add value to other people’s lives and/or make use of the God-given resources around them. In most cases church teaching and preaching revolves around man's relationship with God and with others; in fewer cases, the relationship between man & creation and man & himself is dealt with.
The purpose of  TD is to challenge and open the minds of the participants to understand themselves as image-bearers of God, to view other people as created in the image of God as well and to recognise the God-given resources around them that they can put to use to improve their communities in a holistic way.

Charles Kabanda "My name is Kabanda. I fellowship at Nsumba Full Gospel Church. I am 54 years old, married to one wife with eight children and 4 other dependent children. I am a farmer, house roofer and also a local council 1 (LC1) leader in my home area.
My home area of Nsumba Musa needs TD because people are not educated, so if we get TD it can help them get to know who they are and stop over drinking alcohol.
TD has helped me a lot since I am an LC1 leader. Before I have been forcing people to do things such as community work without their consent, now I have learnt through TD that I should work with the people not force them or work for them. In that way I give people I lead dignity."
TD principles covered during the workshop included:
•             the four relationships God created for us at creation,
•             shalom – holistic health,
•             setting people free to be all that god wants them to be,
•             poverty,
•             basic principles of sustainable development,
•             culture and world view,
•             what is the role of donors,
•             responding to the poor,
•             mobilizing the church for holistic mission
