June has sprung and the summer fun has begun!

 After taking last week off, Pub Theology returns this Thursday! Join Intern Michelle starting at 6:30 p.m. at The Starlight Room, 3300 1st Ave NE.

Sermon: “Turn Back"
Is our phone off the hook, or is God receiving a busy signal from us when God calls? In today’s reading Ruth says, “Do not press me to leave you or to turn back from following you!” What would it look like if we follow God as steadfastly as Ruth follows God’s call by believing “your, God, my God?”

As you make your summer plans, don't forget to get together! This Friday the Hetrick Family kicks off our first block party.
June 12, 6-8 p.m. – Campfire Worship at Indian Creek Nature Center. Grab your picnic dinner and some camping chairs, and meet us outside Indian Creek Nature Center's new lodge. We'll eat our dinners, have some fun playing lawn games, and then gather for worship led by Michael and Marissa at 7pm, followed by s'mores.
The Week of June 24 we'll be getting together with our friends at Matthew 25 to support their Transform Week projects in the Taylor Elementary neighborhood. Get the details on this project over at hub25.org/housing-neighborhoods/transform-week/
Then, on Sunday, June 30 We'll enjoy a day at the lake! Come on out to the Main Lodge at Lake McBride State Park for an afternoon of fun! From 3-7 p.m. we'll have fun on the beach, play games, hold a fishing derby, and at 5:30 we'll all enjoy a catered dinner together. There are also Paddle boats, canoes and more you can rent at your own cost. This event is free (other than rentals you might choose) but we do want you to RSVP to the Church Office if you want to go!

June 15 – Grief Support Reunion – If you took part in the Grief Share Groups, or the Grief Journey group, you are invited to attend a reunion of those who have shared these experiences. Saturday, June 15 at 6:15 p.m. (following the Sat. evening worship service) upstairs in Room 312. Bring a snack to share and come to share how you have been doing since attending the classes. Let’s see if we can include some good healing laughter in the mix.

June 17-20 – Help make Vacation Bible School a Success! – Faith formation experiences for children are crucial and Vacation Bible School serves a unique roll, but it can't happen without lots of youth and adult leaders! Our most urgent needs is for Rotation Station Leaders for art, science, games, and service. Everything is written and prepared for you so all you need to do is show up and help lead Check these and all the roles available on firstlutherancr.org/vbs-volunteer .

June 30 – Combined Worship & BBQ June 30 – We are planning one massive combined worship at 10 a.m. Sunday, June 30 with our host congregation at Westminster. This will replace all regular weekend services Saturday and Sunday for both of our congregations. We'll host a BBQ lunch to follow at 11 a.m. with hamburgers, hotdogs, salads and other "summer-picnic" type foods. No RSVP needed.

 SIXTH ANNUAL PRAISE ON THE RIVER!
You've waited for it all year and here it is! Join His Hands Free Clinic this Sunday, June 9 from 3-6, downtown at the McGrath Amphitheatre! This is a family friendly event, perfect for young, old, youth groups, singles, and groups. There is NO cost to attend! This event is free and made possible by local business sponsors. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets, get comfy and settle in for a day of great worship bands and gospel music! There will also be face painting, kites, balloon tosses and much more! This community event raises funds that provide physical, emotional, and spiritual care for those without adequate resources in Eastern Iowa. Come support your community and have a great time doing it!
