MIDDLEBURY, Conn. – The hilly countryside of western Connecticut provided athletes with gorgeous scenery and a challenging course in the inaugural 2019 IRONMAN® 70.3® Connecticut triathlon that took place on Sunday, June 2. The event saw nearly 2,700 registered athletes representing 37 states and 19 countries, territories, and regions. One of more than 100 events in the global IRONMAN 70.3 Series, athletes took on an approx. 0.47-mile swim, 56-mile bike and 13.1-mile run through the beautiful New England countryside. The race began with a swim through the blue waters of spring-fed Lake Quassapaug, followed by a challenging bike course through the breathtaking Connecticut countryside with long winding descents that took athletes along pastoral vineyards. The event was capped off with a two-loop run course through scenic New England neighborhoods. The event offered 30 coveted age-group qualifying slots to the 2019 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Nice, France.
