June Newsletter

Dear Readers,

I can’t believe that summer is upon us. May was a busy month with the STC Summit in Denver. I hope you enjoyed my Twitter account takeover during the Summit. I tried to give you all regular updates to the action and learning that was happening. For even more insight, read our First Vice President Esther’s account of her experience below. Next year’s Summit will take place in Bellevue, Washington. I hope you can all plan to attend.

This month, we have our family and friends event on Saturday, June 22nd. Once a year, we try to plan a casual get together that includes family and friends. Now that school is out for summer, we encourage you to bring your kids! We will be enjoying the food trucks at Klyde Warren Park and the free museum entrance at the Dallas Museum of Art. Register online at Eventbrite for this free event.

Best Regards,

Lacey Corbin
NTLSC President

Agile Live Meeting Recap

In May’s live meeting, our very own Zohra Mutabanna presented the Agile manifesto and Esther Asham walked us through the life of a writer in an Agile environment. We had 17 people in attendance with various experience levels and Agile knowledge. The speakers and attendees had great discussions and exchanged thoughts during and after the meeting.

Highlights from STC Summit

by Esther Asham

Left to right: Agnes (Past President), Esther (First VP), Lacey (President), and Celeste (Webmaster)

This year, I attended the STC Summit in Denver. I enjoyed the leadership sessions and getting to personally meet many of the familiar names in person. It was refreshing to learn how other chapters are being creative in expanding their communities and enriching the members’ experiences.

The Summit had a great lineup of excellent speakers on a variety of topics and tracks. I especially enjoyed a session about mentor/mentee relationships, many sessions about content strategy and knowing your audience, and was mesmerized by Peter Morville as he delivered the keynote.

It was great to meet with fellow technical communicators from around the world and share experiences and knowledge. I came back with a handful of ideas and many new friends.
