Tall, Dark, & Handsome
Delbert's new album, Tall, Dark, & Handsome ( Hot Shot Records/ThirtyTigers)  is set for release on July 26, at City Winery in Nashville. Tickets are on sale now for this intimate and exciting show.
The first two singles have been released as a sneak preview, and THIS WEEK,  the first single, "If I Have To Hock My Guitar" has entered the Contemporary Blues chart at #9 and the Texas chart at #6.   The Americana Chart has Tall, Dark, &Handsome listed as "bubbling up" in radio, as the 5th most added song and 6th most added album in radio airplay across the nation.
You are sure to like the second single pre-released from the album is "A Fool Like Me," which features background vocals by Delaney McClinton.
If you have been to any of the live shows this year, you have heard some of the songs on the album, but suffice to say that Delbert and the Self-Made Men + Dana have knocked this one out of the park.  Listen to these two singles and order the album through your choice of outlets - whether hard copy, vinyl or streaming.   PRE- ORDER ALBUM here, and you will get the two released singles right away!
Many of you will fondly remember Jim Cannon from years of Sandy Beaches Cruises. Jim and his wife, Linda,
danced a million miles on the high seas and dance floors
through the last 62 years.
JAMES DELONY CANNON
1936-2019

Surrounded by his loving family, our dancing friend Jim Cannon died at home in Austin, TX, on Thursday, May 9th after a short and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Jim was born in Foreman, Arkansas, and graduated from Foreman High School with a passion for cars and a love of dancing.  He worked for a short time in Bisbee, Arizona, before moving to Tularosa, New Mexico, where his mother was teaching. He met his wife Linda when he drove up in his 1957 Triumph TR3 and asked, “Hi doll, wanna ride”?  They were married at Tularosa United Methodist Church on September 2, 1960.

For years, Jim’s life revolved around road racing, child rearing, dancing, solar energy and the successful foreign car repair business he and Linda started in Alamogordo, New Mexico, where he mentored dozens of young men in the local high school Votech Program. In the late 1980s Jim decided that car repair was no longer fun, so, always ahead of his time, he decided to study water management at New Mexico State University.  In 1991, when Motorola offered Jim a job in Austin, he and Linda and his beloved mother-in-law all moved to Texas.  After retiring from Motorola, Jim ran a successful handyman business - but only in the afternoons. He always slept “till the crack of noon” since he and Linda danced late into the night.

A veteran of 22 consecutive years on the Delbert McClinton Sandy Beaches Cruise – from 1997 to 2018 – Jim Cannon never met a stranger.  Whether he was on the dance floor or standing in the buffet line, he took time to talk to everyone.  In fact, Jim was considered by hundreds to be part of their own families. With Linda always by his side, he lived “the good life” ...surrounded by love, music and friendship....an obviously happy man blessed with the things that matter.

Our deepest condolences to his sweetheart of 60 years, wife Linda; his loving daughters Malinda and Emily and their husbands; and his darling dancing granddaughter Sarah. He will be sadly missed by all of us in the Sandy Beaches family.

Please note:  A celebration of Jim’s life will be held in Austin at his beloved Donn’s Depot on Sunday, June 9th, beginning at 4 pm.

Delbert McClinton and Self Made Men + Dana will be performing at AmericanaFest in Nashville on Saturday, Sept. 14. AMERICANAFEST will be held in Nashville, Tuesday, September 10th through Sunday, September 15th, 2019. This is AMERICANAFEST’s 20th Anniversary. AMERICANAFEST is the Americana Music Association's annual fundraiser. More Information Here.
